Objective:There is no accurate volume measurement method for evaluating the response to chemotherapy in malignant bone and soft tissue tumors, as well as no specific preoperative evaluation method to evaluate the surgical margin. This study design the precise volume measurement method and individualized surgical margins preoperatively by the3D reconstruction technique and3D printing technique, in order to provide reliable reference data for resection of malignant bone and soft tissue tumors.Method:25cases of malignant bone and soft tissue tumors treated in Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology from Mar2012to Mar2014were analyzed. With the use of3D reconstruction technique and.3D printing technique, accurate measurement of tumor volume and the determination of surgical margin according to the standard proposed by Kawaguchi were easily reached. The specimens were sent to the pathological examination to clear the tumor type.15potatoes were analyzed by water displacement method, ellipsoid formular method,3D reconstruction method and Optical3D measurement method. The accuracy of volume measurement was evaluated between the ellipsoid formular method and3D reconstruction method with water displacement method as the reference method. The difference between the3D reconstruction method and Optical3D measurement method was examined when using those methods to evaluate the marginal information.Results:1. The average prominent deviation is0.236mm, while0.297mm for the average indented deviation. No statistical difference were found between those deviations with0(P>0.05).2. Postoperative surgical type developed by preoperative imaging data were mostly curative resection or wide resection, only one case of intralesional resection for tumors’ malignant progression and one case of marginal resection for femoral nerve’s invasion.3. It is better to use3D reconstruction method to measure the volume than the ellipsoid formular method in malignant bone and soft tissue tumors.4. The result of volume measurement by3D reconstruction method was in accordance with that by water displacement method in15cases of tumors, and the normal tissues resected mainly contributed to the error of measurement. Conclusion:In this study, the using of continuous imaging data with enough sectional anatomy details could provide a more scientific basis for measuring the size of tumor and identifying the surgical margins of tumor in multiple dimensions by3D reconstruction method. According to the operation plan made by3D reconstruction method, the completely three-dimensional resection was approached. If the3D printing technology was applied, a real model would be presented in front of the surgeon, which will help the surgeon to make a better understanding of the personal anatomy of this tumor and to march more procedures about this operation.
