Urban rail transit plays a key role in reducing problems such as traffic congestion in many cities. Construction of rapid rail transit projects starts in lots of cities in China. Network structures and operations are more and more complex with the continued construction of urban rail transit network (URTN) and the increasing network size. Traditional graph theory has been difficult to meet he abstraction and analysis. The application of complex network theory has brought new ideas to research of rail transit network.Topology structure of URTN was researched in this paper based on the complex network theory. Space S model was built and combined with Space P model. Topology properties of different URTNs and different times of URTN in one city were studied. Analysis of dynamic passenger flow was taken based on the data of passenger IC card. Analysis of efficiency in the network was taken. The study wants to provide reference to the planning, construction and operation of URTN.Static network, dynamic network and hybird network, which represent the phase of planning and construction, the phase of independent operation and the phase of integrated transportation system, were studied one after another. Topology structure of static network was studied to understand system structure and development principle. Train and passenger-flow were loaded to make the model closer to actual rail system. Key node and normal bus system were analyzed to fuse rail subsystem and urban transportation system.Topology analysis model was built based on Space P model and Space S model which was built based on the improvement of Space L model. Space S model considered the situation that lines shave lots of transfer stations. And it also has the restriction of transfer frequency.The topology structure of URTN was built based on cluster analysis. And the discriminant function was built. The database includes 56 URTNs around the world. The properties of URTNs were collected. And all URTNs were classified to two forms and three classifications. The discriminant function could evaluate every URTN that need to be studied.The analysis model of train operation network and the time cost function were built, which introduced time dimension into static topology network. The train operation network was constituted by stations and trains. The parameters of the time cost function were evaluated by the operation timetable and the data of passenger IC card. Passenger flows were assigned into trains using this model.The efficiency during the development of URTN was analyzed. The importance of key nodes in the current and planning URTNs was analyzed. The network efficiency was analyzed by loading the rail transit lines one by one. And the link reliability was analyzed by removing key nodes in the network.In summary, the study may provide theory basis to the construction and operation of URTN. And it may forecast the development pattern before the planning and construction of URTN. It also contributes better operation and management after construction and provides better service to passengers.
