With the development of the optical technology and the improvement of the aerodynamic performance requirements of missile, the traditional spherical dome is out of requirement. Since, It produces large aerodynamic drag, aerodynamic heating phenomenon and serious impact on range and the ability of target recognition. The conformal dome with excellent aerodynamic shape can easily overcome the deficiency of spherical one. But conformal dome is usually high cliffy and not with the point symmetry structure. It will introduce a large number of aberration changing as the field of regard. Therefore how to correct the dynamic aberration in large field of regard is the key problems that restrict the application of conformal optics technology.This paper is mainly engaged in aberration characteristics analysis and correction theory research of conformal dome with wide field of regard. In order to solve the static aberration and dynamic aberration caused by conformal dome.First the geometric features of ellipsoid dome are analyzed. According to the length to diameter ratio, the geometric model of the dome can be set up. The light propagation path deflection angle through ellipsoid dome is calculated using the ray tracing theory; The first and third order aberration characteristics of ellipsoid dome are analyzed using Zernike polynomial. The aberration model of ellipsoid dome isset. The causes and characteristics of the aberration are analyzed.By analyzing the conformal dome structure and aberration characteristics of optical system, two special surfaces are selected which may be suitable for aberration correction including binary optical surface and Zernike fringe surface.Their optical principle and wave front aberration model are analyzed for the following study of aberration correction element.Based on the study of rotating cylinder lens aberration characteristics, an aberration correction system is proposed. According to the software simulation, a top-view the conformal optical system is designed. The system performance well at30°~100°field of regard(FOR)。A solid catadioptric optical system is presented to simplify the structure. In order to correct the aberration during 0°~30°,we combine the binary optical element d with rotating cylinder lens. The correction method is verified by a design example. The design results show that the method realizes the ±90 ° FOR with good image quality.In order to improve the aerodynamic performance of the ellipsoidal dome, an arch conformal dome with fineness ratio 2 is put forward. The geometric and aberration characteristics of the dome with large FOR are analyzed, and a correction method based on deformable mirror is presented. its feasibility is verified by a practical design.
