The sustainable development of resource-based city has always been the core field research focus of geography and other subjects, and it is also the major issue of our national regional economy at present. Vulnerability analysis is not only an effective tool in the realms of global environmental change and sustainability science, but also provides a new paradigm for the study of interaction processes and mechanisms of human-land system of the resource-based city. Petroleum city, as the important part of the resource-based city and a special kind of human-land system with intense interactions between human activities and natural environment, is of typical vulnerability characteristics. Petroleum city is facing multiple disturbances such as resources and environment, economy, social problems, which seriously restrict the sustainability of the petroleum city. Therefore, it is very important to strengthen the research on the the vulnerability and sustainable development of petroleum cities. This study firstly comprehensive analyzes the foundation theories and methods in geography, economics, environmentology. Taking Daqing city which the biggest petroleum city in China as a typical case, the thesis analyzes the sustainable development problems of human-land system of Daqing city based on the Vulnerability analysis, then assess the degree and evolution of human-land system vulnerability, analyzes the factors and mechanism of vulnerability, and finally provides sustainable development model and some countermeasures of Daqing city based on the vulnerability research paradigm. Main contents of the dissertation are as follows:Firstly, it elucidates the research background of vulnerability and sustainable development of petroleum cities, and reviewes the domestic and foreign research progress. This part puts forward the research target, content and method of research and establishes the research framework of dissertation. It defines the related concept of Research, summarizes the related theory and method of vulnerability, the petroleum city and sustainable development. This part of thesis provides an instruction for vulnerability of human-land system and sustainable development of petroleum city.Secondly, the thesis introduces the general situation and sustainable development trend of petroleum city, analyzes the problems of economy, society, resource and environment of Daqing city, then analyzes vulnerability characteristics of human-land system of Daqing city. This part of thesis provides rationale for the vulnerability indicators system of of Daqing’s human-land system and sustainable development model.Thirdly, based on the qualitative analysis for vulnerability of human-land system of Daqing city, the thesis establishes indicators system and assessment model. Then the comprehensive index method, grey relational grade analysis were used to assess the vulnerability of subsystems and human-land system of Daqing city. The result of qualitative analysis reveales the evolution of vulnerability characteristics. The results show that the vulnerability of human-land system of Daqing city had shown a declining trend from 1993 to 2012 with the vulnerability index dropping from 5.2430 to 0.4041. The decreasing speed of the vulnerability index was very fast from 1993 to 2002 and then slowed down after 2002. The changing trend of vulnerability, sensitivity and the response capacity of subsystem was similar to the human-land system of Daqing cityFinally, in this section, the thesis makes a study on the influence and mechanism of human-land subsystem of Daqing city. Then from the perspective of economic, social, resources and environment, it also proposes the sustainable development models of human-land system of Daqing city including industrial structure optimization and upgrade model, Social and urban function conversion model, resource and ecological environment conservation model. And then according to the goals of different models, it determines the approach of each model. Based upon the discussed above, regulating countermeasures of sustainable development models are presented for enhancing sustainability and reduing the vulnerability of Daqing city.
