Theory And Practice Of Western Urban Ecological Infrastructure Planning And Design

Based on the theory and practice of western urban Ecological Infrastructure, research and analyze the theory development, main types and design approaches, and combined the theory of landscape urbanism, put forward the feasible design scheme according to different land use types in ecological construction, to meet the goal of sustainable development in both city development and ecological protection.This paper generally includes three parts:theoretical research, practical research and generalizations. In the theoretical research part, use multidisciplinary research method, based upon in the development of ecological planning since the 1850s, analyze ecological planning process in different disciplines background, periods and regional areas. The ecological design idea could be divided into four stages:the initial phase, the exploration phase, the promotion phase and the prosperous development phase. Then summarize the connotation and methods of ecological planning process, which could be used as reference for the construction of urban ecological infrastructure in China.The practice research part includes three aspects:(1) In regional areas, ecological infrastructure is used as the method to analyze ecological security pattern, provides development framework for city construction, organize the prioritization order in land conservation, in order to provide the best construction policy; (2) In city areas, ecological infrastructure is an approach to build the urban ecological network, which is able to solve different urban issues from multi-levels, including expansion of new cities and the shrink of old cities; (3) In local areas, ecological infrastructure is mainly used as the foundation of sustainable ecosystem structure, as a necessary component of urban construction sites and provide services to meet people’s daily demand in working and living. Combined with plenty of theoretical research and practical cases in western countries, present the corresponding ecological infrastructure planning and design approaches based on the different types of urban ecological infrastructure, including ecological stormwater management, retrofit design of the urban water front, urban waste land restoration and the improvement of the urban traffic systems.The last part analyzes the multi-benefits of ecological infrastructure in different aspects: environmental benefits, social benefits and economic benefits. Provide the methods learned from western countries and adjusted them according to Chinese national conditions, put forward the problems in the ecological construction in China at present and the corresponding solving strategies, lay solid theoretical basis for the construction of ecological civilization in China.Major research results and innovations:1. Reviewed the development context of Ecological ideologies since the 19th century, pointed out that ecological ideology was originated from the introspection on land use, presented and noted the influence of urban planning, landscape architecture, ecology and other disciplines in the development of ecological infrastructure theory;2. Proposed the connotation, methods, and planning processes of ecological infrastructure, and summed up the planning methods and procedures used in macro-ecological infrastructure;3. Calssified ecological infrastructure according to the specific scales, proposed planning elements, design and implementation of strategies and build modes in the practical application of defferent types of ecological infrastructure;4. On the basis of the study of theory and practice of ecological infrastructure in western countries, according to China’s current situation and conditions, put forward planning method and recommendations of ecological infrastructure planning in China.
