Streets, the open spaces in cities with linear characteristics, accommodatepeople’s social life and have unique fascination in the city, but traffic system is moreand more developed while the rights and interests of pedestrian gradually lost andmany realistic issues are occured, such as mechanically design, massive demolitionand construction, passive developing, etc. The development of winter city streetshas gone beyond the controllable range of its own, and ignores people’s status in thestreets as well as the special regional attributes of winter city streets. In today’ssociety of more and more developed, the cultural and emotional demands areincreasing, and the people’s voice of craving for better environment in winter citystreets have become more and more strong.People, the principal part of street, not only the designer and builder of street, but also the user and regenerator, the direct service recipient of street. Thetheoretical core of human value is that, with human centered, to highlight people’sprincipal status, to concern people’s living condition, to meet people’scomprehensive needs, and to concern people’s personality development. The Peopleand city streets spaces are always in a process of positive and benign interaction, and need to meet people’s in the physiological needs, safety needs, social needs, aesthetic needs and self-actualization needs, etc. in winter city streets, and need tostudy the relation between people and the streets. Based on human value-orientation,with the design basis of people’s actvity characteristics, perception experiences andmental feelings, the purpose we do and researche on street designs in winter cities isto create a more humane interest city street space, to improve people’s experience incity street space, to improve the quality of the environment and infrastructure of citystreet space, and bring in the feelings of safty, comfort and pleasant in winter citystreets. Therefore, the research on streets design in winter cities based on humanvalue-orientationsd has important theoretical and practical significance. This paper selects human value as the entry point of the research on the designof winter city streets, establishes the specific evaluation criteria for winter citystreets design research, strongly emphasizes the intimate connection betweensubject needs and object arttbiute, and discusses the profound influence whichhuman value theory imposes on winter city streets with plenty of space. Under thepremise of the highly summarized history and current status of the development ofwinter city streets, the connection between winter city streets and human value issystematically analyzed, concluded and summarized. And the paper detailedlyanalyzes the winter city streets from people’s natual needs, physical needs and humanistic needs, using it on basis, presents three evolution trends of the winter citystreets design, namely climate improve design driven by natual needs, spaceoptimization design driven by physical needs and vitality increase design driven byhumanistic needs. This paper deeply discusses stratages from three aspects which are cold climateadaptation, space optimization and vitality increase of winter city streets. Firstly, using people’s natual needs as the starting point to re-establish micro-climateimprovement strategy for winter city streets, and proposes three strategies foradverse climatic factors, namely microcosmic optimizine of the cold wind in streets, full use of the sunlight in streets, moderate alleviation of the low temperature instreets and utilization and removel of the street accumulated snow. Secondly, usingpeople’s physical needs as the starting point to rethink space optimization strategiesfor winter city streets, for the purpose of a safe, comfortable and pleasant walkingenvironment, by understanding people’s behavior and psychology in winter citystreets, to build a street spatial scale with strong behaviour affiliation, a street spacesurface with better behaviour experience, a street walk space with behaviour asylumand a underground street space with multidimensional extension. Finally, usingpeople’s humanistic needs as the starting point to rethink vitality increase strategyfor winter city streets, to focus on enhancing the winter street vitality as well assummer street vitality increase, using winter resources of winter city and localculture as the motivate point, to strengthen the vitality catalyzing of street leisureactivities, composite cognition of local street culture, aesthetic appreciation of localstreet landscape and humanistic concern of setting for communal facilities. It has double significances on theory and practice to do research on streetsdesign in winter cities based on human value-orientations. Hope this thesis willhave a promoting and perfecting effect on the theoretical system of China’s wintercities streets studies, activate diversified design ideas and play a leading andguiding role in winter cities streets construction and development, to lead wintercity street onto the developing way of healthy and sustainable. There is a total number of about160thousands characters in this thesis, with376figues/images/tables, and59%of the figues/images are independently andoriginally drawn or shot by author, and75%of the tables are independently andoriginally drawn or collected by author.
