The concept of publicity is ambiguous or even misused in academics, though it is one ofthe inherence of cultural architecture. There lack the focus and research on publicity in thedomain of architecture in China. In this article, the notation of publicity is deduced from itspolitical origin. The theory on the publicity for cultural architecture is established in thenow-a-days context, based on the research of basic principle and historical background.Consequently the current situation of cultural architecture is critically introspected and thecorresponding solution is suggested. In conclusion, as one of the philosophy of design,publicity leads to the expression of historical feature, the executation of social responsibilityand the notation of humanism.The theoretical system is composed by the notation of concept, the philosophy of value,the principal goal and the solution of the practical problems.There are three parts in this article.Chapter2and3:The theoryThe relevant political theory is simply reviewed to distinguish the architectural conceptof publicity from the political domain and to notate the concept via the valueorientation andthe subject of right. Contemporarily in China, the publicity for cultural architecture isexpressed as the public subject of right and the value idea of equality, opening and democracy.As public space and resources, cultural architectures should be equally distributed, be openingand fully involve the public. The theoretical research gives the standpoint for criticizing thecurrent situation of the publicity for cultural architecture in China, as well as to offer the basefor suggesting the solutions.Chapter4~6:The practical problems and the solutionsThree problems can be seen from the facts: the lack of fairness in planning, theinsufficiency of spatial and functional opening in design, totally no public involution. Thesolutions are suggested from three aspects.Chapter7:The significance of publicityThe problem of publicity in architecture rises from the conflicts between the awakeningof civism and the retardation of politics and culture. It features our times in which all kinds ofproblems are flurred by the rushing flow of economic development. We are not going todiscuss about the form or the language, but the architect’s recognition and socialresponsibility on the subject of right and consequently the judgment. However, new opportunities always come with problems. It is possible to creatively combine the requirementof publicity and the contemporary features. An architect is supposed to actively establish theconcept of publicity, properly self-position and skillfully insist his own design philosophy.This article can be considered as the detailed research on contemporaneityof architecture,one of the branches of the theory of “two concepts and three features†suggested byAcademician He Jingtang. It follows two clues: from the western concepts to the currentsituation in China and from theoretical research to practical consideration. |
