Based on the historical view and the comparative method, this thesis focuses onthe architectural spaces for fashion exhibitions, elaborates in chronological order thefeatures and rules of appearance, development and revolution of the architecturalspaces for fashion exhibitions. Through the relationship between fashion exhibitionsand architectural spaces, the influence of architectural spaces for fashion exhibitions onurban landscape and also on human life style, aesthetic interests and values areanalyzed. It will provide more practical and efficient theoretical support and researchbasis for reasonable development of architectural spaces for fashion exhibitions in thefuture.Fashion exhibition here refers to expressing methods in either static (exposition)or dynamic (show) form of fashion commercial purpose and artistic intention. Fashionexhibitions demonstrate self-charm in architectural spaces with abundant connotationsand various forms such as commercial buildings (boutiques, shopping malls, hotels),exposition buildings (art galleries, museums), memorial buildings (city walls, palaces,relics), sports buildings (football fields, natatoria) and so on, and then the goal ofimproving images and stimulating consumption is achieved. The appearance anddevelopment of fashion exhibition not only enriches the ideas and forms ofarchitectural spaces, but also endows a lot of spaces with some new meanings. In thisnew century and new era, the fashion industry is depending on architectural spacesincreasingly and the architectural spaces for fashion exhibitions present a trend ofprosperity. However, there are few systematic and scientific theories on architecturalspaces for fashion exhibition. In view of the margin in this research field and the urgent need for the theoreticalknowledge for fashion exhibition spaces of concerned professionals engaged inarchitecture and fashion, this thesis studies the relationship between fashionexhibitions and architectural spaces from three parts:Firstly, a textual research on the appearance and early types and features ofarchitectural spaces for fashion exhibition is made with the historical point of view.The initial stage of development of fashion industry was the beginning period ofcommercialization of modern cities. Urban landscapes formed by the developing lawof architectural spaces for fashion exhibitions from points to lines then to surfaces aregeneralized and summarized, meanwhile technical parameters required by cooperativedevelopment of architectural spaces for fashion exhibitions and cities are analyzed andstudied. These researches make clear the self-developing direction of architecturalspaces for fashion exhibitions as well as supplement the urban history from thisperspective.(Chapter Two and Chapter Three)Secondly, architectural spaces for fashion exhibitions are classified in atypological way through a great deal of documents, and the features of each type andthe styles of each period are summed up.(Chapter Four and Chapter Five)Thirdly, through case studies of co-development during a long period of fashionexhibition and architectural spaces in spaces, structures, surfaces and frames, thedesign methods and strategies are analyzed and studied, what’s more, some detailedadvices and corrective measures are put forward. Then the trend of architectural spacesfor fashion exhibitions in the future is predicted.(Chapter Six and Chapter Seven)This thesis begins with the relationship between architectural spaces for fashionexhibitions through interdisciplinary comparative methods from the integratedviewpoint of human, fashion and architecture through, discusses relationship betweenarchitectural spaces for fashion exhibitions and urban forms, human values and senseof belongings on deep and multi dimensions, systematic research is made combinedwith the relative theories of economy, politics, architecture, arts and fashion exhibitiondesign, which supplements the architectural history, and has realistic enlightening andguiding significance for enhancing urban commercial development and people livingconditions in our country.
