In the process of reform and opening-up for 30 years, China's life insurance industry has made rapid development, and its scale and influence has been expanding. However, the process of rapid development of insurance also highlights the contradictions between the development of China'life insurance industry with our economic progress. Especially, the life insurance industry cannot meet our demand. Firstly, commercial insurance coverage is limited, characterized by the small amount of policies per capita, low insurance depth and insurance density. Secondly, the consumption structure of China's life insurance is of serious disequilibrium, such as a too large proportion of life insurance and a too small portion of health insurance and accident insurance. Thirdly, the life insurance consumption of residents shows significant regional differences, as rapid development in the eastern part and relatively backward in the Midwest. These phenomena are partly because of socioeconomic development and history, and partly because of the particular life insurance comsumption under our especial environment.Research on life insurance consuming behavior has important theoretical and practical significance. First of all, as an important aspect of the consumption in modern society, life insurance consumption has the characteristics of general consumption, and also achieves the aim of transferring risks of consumers as well as the function of investment. But domestic life insurance consumption still has some blindness. This dissertation will help guide the rational consumption of life insurance. Secondly, the life insurance consumption has an important position in national economy. It is the redistribution of initial distribution of residents. By life insurance consumption, it can reach the goals of risk transfer and loss-sharing; improve the insurants'ability of taking risks, which is conducive to economic and social development and stability. By multi-channel insurance investments, insurance funds are used for social reproduction, and have played an important role in the allocation of resources. Thirdly, the life insurance consumption is closely related to development of life insurance industry. Insurance consumption is the purpose and destination of insurance production, also a test of insurance products and services. At present, many existing problems in China's life insurance industry are inextricably linked with the life insurance consumption behavior. Research on life insurance consumption behavior will help understand the deep-seated reasons of these problems. At the same time, business strategy as well as product innovation of insurance companies have to focus on the characteristics of consumption behaviors in certain areas. And transition from extensive development to connotative development, the adjustment of insurance products structure as well as the optimization of regional structures all depend on the deep analysis of life insurance consumption behavior.Urban residents are the main consumer groups of commercial life insurance (insurance consumption spending of urban residents is accounted for 90% of all residents in 2007). Therefore, taking urban residents as its researching subject, this dissertation mainly studies on the laws of life insurance consumption behavior of Chinese urban residents by economics, sociology, psychology, behavioral science theory and other disciplines related. It analyzes its evolution process and focuses on an analysis of the current characteristics of its consumption behavior, explores its impact in demand, supply and environmental inflecting factors, and uses empirical test methods by questionnaire survey. Finally, it predicts the trend of our consumption behavior, its impact on the life insurance market, and further explores the coping strategies of life insurance companies and relevant government departments. This dissertation is divided into eight chapters. Introduction part illustrates the background and significance of the research, defines the subjects, analyzes and sums up the relative study and makes a brief explanation of research methods, framework, contribution and deficiency. Chapter I describes the general economic theory of consumption, and refines the specificity of the life insurance consumption, tries to find the constraints and motivation of this consumption. Information asymmetry is an outstanding problem in the life insurance consumption, so some conclusions of information economics are also conducive to understanding consumers'behavior of life insurance. In all, this chapter is a theoretical basis for the following chapters. Chapter II analyzes the life insurance consumption psychology and behavior, mainly using consumption psychology, behavioral science and marketing theory to expound the characteristics of insurance consumers'general psychology and behavior. It also introduces the general rules of consumption behavior, consumer decision-making process and its impact, followed by exploring the psychology and behavior in all stages of life insurance consumption. Chapter III reviews the evolution and current situation of China's life insurance consumption on a macro perspective, then analyzes overall features, the level and the constructor of China's life insurance consumption of urban residents. Chapterâ…£to Chapterâ…¥dissects the demand, supply and environmental inflecting factors of life insurance consumption. These factors show the specificity of our socio-economic cultural environment, which determines the level and structure of life insurance consumption of our urban residents. By using data of survey, chapterâ…¦is a statistical and empirical analysis. Because of the difficulties of data collection as well as similar external environment of samples, using the cluster analysis to analyze the life insurance consumption behavior is based on the personalized factors. Chapterâ…§puts forward to the trends of consumer behavior and its impact of life insurance consumption behavior of Chinese urban residents. And also it discusses the coping strategies of insurance companies and relevant government departments to these trends and its impact. The contributions of this dissertation are as follows:Firstly, this dissertation researches on the laws of insurance consumption behavior by demand, supply and environmental affection based on economics, psychology behavior theory. At the same time, it takes urban residents as individuals with limited knowledge and information, social men enslaved to the system and culture and natural men subjected to their habits and psychology. In addition, this dissertation also analyzes the impact of insurance consumption behavior on the insurance industry and market, so it represents a useful effort for guiding the rational insurance consumption of Chinese urban residents and healthy and sustained development of insurance industry.Secondly, a large number of questionnaire survey and first-hand information of interviews with insurance practitioners are important arguments and sources of new ideas for this dissertation. Insurance consumption of urban residents is not only an economic subject, but also a sociological and psychological issue.1) This paper analyzes psychology and behavior in every aspect of insurance consumption of China's urban residents, and comes to its general characteristics.2) This paper comprehensively applies qualitative and quantitative methods; the most important contribution is gaining information of insurance consumption of 382 families in Sichuan province by a large number of questionnaires. Based on it, the paper gives statistical description and positive analysis.3) This paper also uses comparative analysis, comparing the characteristics of insurance consumption behavior at one time or another in different areas, which offers important empirical support for the paper.Thirdly, this dissertation takes the insurance consumption of China's urban residents as the subject to study. China's urban residents are the principal of insurance consumption, and also directly face the social security system reform, housing reform, medical reform and education reform. This dissertation focuses on the impact of environment factors on consumer's behavior, such as transition economy, cultural and system, so as to arrive at some new points of view. It also clarifies consumers'differences in insurance consumption structure, social class and regions. In addition, by questionnaires and interviews, this dissertation has some creative conclusions, such as:1) the positive correlation between social security and purchasing commercial insurance; 2) personal income and household income are positively correlated with the insurance consumption; 3) subjective feelings of risk are positive correlated with the insurance consumption; and 4) insurance suppliers determine the behavior of insurance consumers in certain circumstances, etc.
