The advent of multi-agent systems has brought opportunities for the modeling andsimulation of complex system. During the past decade, there have been many methodsproposed for modeling and simulating based multi-agent systems, and also the theory and theinfrastructure interrelated multi-agent have been mature gradually. However, the methodsproposed for modeling and simulating based multi-agent system are difficult to implement. Inthis thesis, a method to model and simulate system is present, which is based on the multi-agent,and is workable and easy to implement a multi-agent system. And then, the sorting subsystemof the wood products logistics distribution center (WPLDC) is modeled and simulated with thismethod.In this thesis, the work involved and the results obtained are as follows:According to the essential character of the agent, an approach to model a system based onmulti-agent is proposed, which is to analyze and model a system statically and dynamicallybased on multi-agent, utilizing the use case diagram or the class diagram or the sequencediagram of the unified modeling language (UML), and to model the behavior model of agentwith the state diagram of UML, and to specify the behaviors of agent individual with theextensible markup language (XML). Further more, the simulating model of the WPLDC isestablished with this approach.A process is introduced which is to design the simulation program based on the JADE thatis a multi-agent simulation and development platform. This process is used to design the sortingsubsystem of the WPLDC. And then, the agent classes of the sorting subsystem is programmed,including the picking device agent, the sorting device agent, the storage agent, the sorting placeagent, the picking device management agent, the sorting device management agent, and so on.In order to evaluate the sorting subsystem of the WPLDC, a set of performance indexes isintroduced, such as the rate blocked, the rate loaded, and forth. Further more, launching the simulation program of the sorting subsystem above-mentioned, the sorting subsystem of Fujianwood product logistics distribution center was simulated in a LAN. And its performance wasevaluated with these indexes.The entire process was put into practice to model and simulate the sorting subsystem of theWPLDC, which included modeling, design, implement and simulation. The approach modelingand simulation based on multi-agent could be used for other logistics distribution center. Andthose performance indexes could be available to evaluate the sorting subsystem of otherlogistics center as the WPLDC. In a word, above-mentioned approach provides a theoryreference and practical foundation.
