Global Production Networks and the Study of Chinese Industrial UpgradingBased on the theoretical model of industrial upgrading in global production networks, this thesis is focusing on the research of mechanism and influential factors during the progress of relative industries' participation into global division of labour. Furthermore, this thesis is aimed to evaluating the situation of Chinese industrial upgrading in GPNs and seeking countermeasures to promote further upgrading. This thesis can be divided into the following several parts:â… . The essential features of GPNs was analyzed through the theory of transaction cost. At the same time, by combining the Theory of Vertical Specialization, the Theory of Intra-Product Specialization and the Theory of New Classical Economics, the viewpoint which is held is that there are some motivations and decisive factors of development of GPNs including static comparative advantage, economy of scale, inherent comparative advantage, transaction cost, the pressure from market competition, difference of proportion of various inputs and difference of effective scales of different producing links.â…¡. In this thesis, the unique mechanism of knowledge transferring and diffusion in GPNs was analyzed by using the theory of knowledge management, which is providing the suppliers in GPNs with the important channels to obtain knowledge and realize upgrading.â…¢. Based on the analysis of the mechanism of knowledge transferring and diffusion in the GPNs, this thesis is targeting at analyzing the connotation and mechanism of upgrading realized by the suppliers in the GPNs. And upgrading relative to and in the GPNs can be classified into six types, they are upgrading from one industry to another, product upgrading, upgrading of value chains, upgrading of firm capability, upgrading of actors, upgrading of correlating and spillover effect. Also there are some relative successful cases to support basic theoretical conclusions.â…£. In this thesis, the factors including different governing methods, policy system, external environment and firm's characteristics were deeply analyzed, which will have an impact on the upgrading process in the GPNs.â…¤. In this thesis, the index system was established to analyze and evaluate upgrading situation in the GPNs as well as the upgrading situation of Chinese relative industries. According to the relative results of investigation, Chinese relative industries involved in the GPNs have realized upgrading at certain extent up to now, because there has been a general transmission from labour-intensive links to technology-intensive links. But there is also an need to upgrade to the high value-added, core links in the GPNs. Meanwhile, this thesis is emphasizing the analysis on upgrading situation of garment industry and the industry of computer and outside appliance.â…¥. In this thesis, countermeasures aimed at further upgrading of Chinese relative industries in the GPNs were put up forward.
