The study of location determinants is one of the major focuses of the field concerning foreign direct investment (FDI). The dissertation tried to develop a system analysis framework by studying different kinds of FDI theories and analyzed the driven forces of China's FDI miracle such as policies, institutions, markets, labor forces and human resources, culture and geographic location, infrastructure, and agglomeration of economy by using the framework. The purpose of the dissertation is to find the rules behind the determinants which influence the inward FDI and to give some ideas for China how to attract more FDI and multinational enterprises (MNEs) in their location decision making.Base on the study of China's FDI trend and its contribution to China's economic development, the dissertation studied the impact of the location determinants and their changing trends on three issues namely why did FDI choose China as a final destination, why did FDI locate in a specific area other than others within China and the entry models.For the first issue, the dissertation demonstrated China's long term competition advantages in attracting inward FDI from the perspectives of Chinese FDI policies, business facilitation and economic factors. From the time sequence data, the dissertation reached a conclusion that location determinants change as the development of economy. As China entered WTO, the location decision making of MNEs becomes more and more market orientatedFor the second issue, the dissertation analyzed the disparity of FDI among the Chinese three macro regions and its impact on the economic development of the three regions, the FDI regional determinants and their impact on the regional distribution of FDI. Some proposals of the strategic options were put forward for the Central and Western Regions.For the third issue, the dissertation mainly analyzed the changing trends of FDI entry models in China and the impact on which made by the dynamic changes of China's FDI location determinants.The final part is some policies proposals for China's FDI.
