| With the globalization and development of IT, the market environment is becoming dynamic. What should logistics service providers (LSPs) depend on when they compete with others in the market? What are the sources of competitive advantages for logistics service providers? And where are these sources come from? Are they from inside or outside of the firm? In responding to these problems, the viewpoint of this dissertation are as followings: (T) for LSPs, the acquiring of competitive advantages depends on the logistics service capabilities (LSC) they exhibited in the competition; (2) these logistics service capabilities they exhibited may be the internal capabilities firms have and these internal capabilities are accumulated and enhanced through firm learning; While, not all the capabilities exhibited must be or should be internal, external sourcing is another strategic choice for LSPs.In this research, the qualitative analysis, quantitative analysis, theory research, and experimental research are comprehensively used and competence theory, logistics management, service management, and sourcing theory are digested. The logistics service capabilities are systematically studied according to the logic process of how to cognize logistics service capabilities, including characterize, identify, and measure LSC, and where and how to sourcing LSC.Chapter 1 and chapter 2 are the preface and preparation of the dissertation, subsequently, a research framework of LSC is developed, on which this research based. As a whole, two questions are answered through this research: how to cognize and how to sourcing LSC.1.
