This dissertation applies ecological method to research firm clusters, constructs the model, does the simulative analysis and designs the evolution path of clusters, preliminarily has established the evolution analysis framework of clusters from the theory of ecological evolution in order to advance the theoretic progress of firm clusters and parse origin and evolution path of firm clusters and the behavior of manufacturer. To begin with, this dissertation builds the ecosystem of clusters to construct the model with ecological theory and evolution theory. At the same time, it simulates evolution path of clusters, such as, origin, agglomeration, extending cross region, fault and reestablishment. Put forward the new concepts composed of locational costs, locational benefits, agglomeration costs and agglomeration benefits with costs and benefits principle. These researches uncover the progress that new firms enter into cluster and the relationship of mutualism and cooperation with each resident firm, and find the trace of cluster's extending. In additions, according to the cooperative supply relation after manufacturers move, this dissertation reveals and explains the conditions of mutual cooperation, notices and the decision-making variables that should be concerned. Subsequently, sums up the main points that manager should hold during reconstruction of the cooperative relationship. Finally, according to the viewpoint that other scholars put forward, this dissertation designs the relation model about formation cause for agglomeration, agglomeration degree and manufacturer performance. Then it bring forward causal hypothesis about the formation of firm clusters (H1-4); Associated hypothesis about agglomeration degree and manufacturer behavior (H5-9) and associated hypothesis about manufacturer behavior and manufacturer performance (H10-12). We select 121 firms in high-tech areas of Hangzhou and validate the hypothesis through regression analysis and canonical correlation analysis. The result of the research demonstrates that:(1) The research methodology for ecology has instructional meaning in the research of firm clusters. The agglomeration of biology has a lot of concepts, such as species, population, community, ecosystem, succession modality, environment carrying capacity, the evolution model of biology, niche's appearance , atrophy, extension and dying etc, which may properly be cited and consulted in research of firm clusters.(2) On the basis of the anticipative benefit rate firms choose to enter which clusters. In the incipient stages of cluster's development, the entry rate is assumed to be proportional to the level of locational benefits. Each marginal firm, which entersthe cluster, increases the average profitability of locating in the cluster only up to a threshold. After that point, any new entrant lowers the average net benefits available to each resident firm and new entrant.(3) Upon a thorough review of relevant literature, this research first proposes a conceptual framework elaborating the formation of a collaborative buyer-supplier relationship in the production network. Three major dimensions are identified within the framework: they are reciprocal dependence, firm's capabilities, and social ties. As the foundation of long-term collaboration, reciprocal dependence is resulted from both the characteristics of demand and supply and the degree of just-in-time and/or customization requirements. Complementary resources/capabilities create incentives for the collaborative parties to generate synergy through a close linkage, which usually involves relation-specific investment, trust and social ties as necessary safeguards to reduce transaction hazard.(4) The vertical cooperation and the horizontal competition relations is an important determinant of firms clustering. The degree of agglomeration can bring on remarkable influence for interacted mechanism between manufacturers and circulation mechanism of knowledge, but it hasn't obvious influence on a systematic procedure.. Interacted mechanism of manufacturers and circulation mechanism of knowledge have remarkable influence on a systematic procedure.Although interacted mechanism between manufacturers has notable influence on working performance and innovation performance, it can't reach to notable level for direct influence on behavior performance. In behavior performance and innovation performance, circulation mechanism of knowledge has better effect, but circulation mechanism of knowledge is unapparent on working performance. We should specially stress on the vertically cooperative relations during industry development, simultaneously there should be the moderate competition in the industry, then manufacturers can pursue the self-growth; Moreover the manufacturers should raise itself ability of knowledge circulation, by effective absorption and transmission. So these results have established foundation for the continuing research.
