In spite of the great achievements accomplished in China since its reform and opening up to the outside world, some certain problems remain in the circulation field with major expressions as follows:considerable disparity in the development level of Chinese circulation industry compared with that abroad as well as severe imbalance of circulation industry development among provinces in China. Therefore, it is of great significance for fully tapping development potentials of provincial circulation industry and promoting their economic developments to undertake comparative analysis on competitiveness of circulation industry in each province as well as figure out their respective advantages and disadvantages in the competition of circulation industry. The paper is roughly divided into 7 chapters, five major parts, namely, question introduction, theoretical analysis, system construction, comprehensive evaluation (empirical analysis) and countermeasure proposal with detailed contents as follows:Question introduction is conducted in part 1, which covers chapter 1 and chapter 2 in the article.Chapter 1, the introduction, introduces background, significance and objective of the research and points out contents such as train of thought, approach and innovation of the study etc. on the basis of combing overviews of relevant studies both home and abroad.Chapter 2, in which contribution of circulation towards economic growth is analyzed from perspectives of both theory and solid evidence, serves as the detailed analysis and demonstration of researching significance of the paper and analyzes the contribution of circulation towards economic growth from two angles of direct effect and indirect effect (spillover effect).Part 2, which serves as theoretical analysis and covers chapter 3 and chapter 4 of the thesis, primarily illustrates theoretical foundation for the study, providing theoretical groundwork for subsequent research of the dissertation.Contents of the four aspects of implication, levels, theoretical basis of evaluation and analytical model of evaluation of competitiveness are primarily analyzed in chapter 3.Chapter 4 mainly elaborates relevant theories of provincial industrial competitiveness research in the way that first and foremost, it conducts analysis of definition and contents of industrial competitiveness, secondly, it sets forth meaning, fundamental characteristics and improved theoretical evidence of provincial economic competitiveness, and finally, it discusses theories such as connotation and influencing factors of provincial circulation industry.Part 3, which mainly includes chapter 5 of the thesis, is about system construction and counts one of the key chapters of the articles.Chapter 5 aims to construct competitiveness evaluation index system for conduction of competitiveness evaluation of circulation industry in the article. First, the chapter points out the principles of selecting index when structuring evaluation index system in the paper. Secondly, it introduces types of evaluation indexes and states the major type it employs. Thirdly, it expounds in details contents including definition, computational formula and data source etc. of each specific index under the 6 sub-indexes of competitiveness such as competitiveness of circulation foundation and so on.Part 4 is about overall merit (Empirical Analysis) and mainly covers chapter 6.Chapter 6 firstly employs the three evaluation approaches of factor analysis method, principal component analysis and entropy method to conduct comparative analysis and comprehensive evaluation on the competitiveness of provincial circulation industries in the east and the west respectively. Then, it examines the three evaluation methods by putting spearman coefficient of rank correlation, and the evaluation result of competitiveness of the circulation industry that is figured out by applying the entropy method is selected. At last, empirical analysis is undertaken in the chapter on the relationship between provincial circulation industrial competitiveness and economic comprehensive competitiveness in both the east and west regions.Part 5 is about countermeasure suggestions and mainly covers chapter 7. On the basis of summarizing conclusions in the dissertation, chapter 7 poses fundamental ways as well as specific advice on enhancing competitiveness of provincial circulation industry.Major findings of the research include:1. Circulation, with the coefficient of elasticity of 0.5323 on the overall effect, enjoys capacity to facilitate economic growth to some extents. However, development of Chinese circulation industry is relatively backward compared with foreign countries and its role of promoting economic growth has not been fully highlighted; 2. Overall level of circulation industrial competitiveness in provinces and regions in the east is higher than that in the west; 3. According to findings of cluster analysis, non-equilibrium distribution of the overall level of circulation competitiveness has been presented among provinces and regions both in the east and west; 4. A strongly positive correlation is taking on among overall, basic, innovative and density circulation competitiveness of provinces and regions in the east and west, while a moderately positive correlation exists among efficiency, structure and overall circulation competitiveness, and there is a weak negative correlation among development and overall circulation competitiveness; 5. Major differences are in existence in ranking of comprehensive economic competitiveness and overall circulation competitiveness of some provinces and regions in the east and the west. However, development and promotion of the two are characterized by certain coordination and synchronism as well in the top 11 provinces and regions with relatively strong overall circulation competitiveness and comprehensive economic competitiveness.Principle innovations of the paper include:1. Redefinition of related conceptions such as circulation, modern circulation and circulation industry etc.2. Establishment of an index system that is suitable for evaluating provincial circulation industrial competitiveness in China, which altogether consists of 6 first-class indexes and 59 second-class ones.3. Conduction of comparative analysis on circulation industrial competitiveness with comprehensive application of various evaluating approaches. Factor analysis method, principal'component analysis and entropy method are respectively put into application in the dissertation for the performance of comparative and comprehensive analysis on the circulation industrial competitiveness of 22 provinces (regions and municipalities) in the east and west of China.4. Demonstration of contribution of circulation towards economic growth from both direct and indirect effects.Shortcomings of the paper are primarily demonstrated in the following aspects:1. Exposition of the source theory of circulation competitiveness is not in-depth enough.2. Does not perform dynamic comparison on the competitiveness of the provincial circulation industry.3. Classification of competitiveness of the provincial circulation industry is not in-depth enough.According to the article, the following aspects can be deepened in order to further analyze relevant issues of competitiveness of provincial circulation industry:1. Conduct dynamic comparison on competitiveness of provincial circulation industry; 2. Undertake classification comparison on the 6 sub-indexes of competitiveness in the industrial competitiveness index system; 3. Considering applying some necessary qualitative indicators when establishing evaluation index system; 4. Implement competitiveness segmentation study towards specific industry in the circulation industry.
