With the rapid development of economic globalization and information technology process, enterprises are facing unprecedented pressure on survival and development more than ever. Information technology continues to mature for the enterprises to create the conditions to improve their management level. ERP system, for instance, is an efficient management tool that has been evolving during the recent two decades. It integrates management concept, business process, data, human resource, material resource, computer hardware, software and other resources. It is the combination of management ideas and advanced information technologies, and provides a powerful driving force for enterprise operation and development. In developed countries, the usage of ERP System is already very common, but comparing to that, neither the usage rate nor the success rate of ERP system in China is high. Altogether with famous foreign ERP software applied in Chinese enterprises frequently demonstrated "inability to adapt", it is necessary to do adequate study on ERP application in Chinese enterprises. This paper studies different stages of ERP system application, including system adoption, system implementation, and risk management during ERP application. To answer research questions, we designed a questionnaire. At the beginning, we did a pilot test and selected typical enterprises applying ERP systems from a small range to do a case study; verified questionnaires were submitted all over the country and we used valid data to analyze and test the model and hypotheses proposed. In addition, this paper identified and analyzed the characteristics of ERP systems applications in Chinese enterprises, and provided new perspectives and ideas for future studies on similar topics. In this paper, the incentive factors of ERP adoption were studied. On the basis of literature review, we analyzed of three types of incentives of ERP adoption, namely, positive incentive and negative incentive, as well as external incentive, and then put forward a framework model of incentives of ERP adoption based on the TOE (Technology - Organization - Environment) framework. Based on a two-case study of Chinese manufacturing enterprises, we analyzed the ERP adoption system performance curve model, and identified four phases of ERP implementation and their characteristics as well. In order to explain the reasons for fluctuations in performance, this paper made a detailed investigation to the case companies about the implementation process, and identified six critical success factors of ERP implementation, namely clear goals and strategy, top management support, adequate training and guidance, powerful implementation team, business process reengineering and data accuracy. For a long time, it's been a hot topic for both academia and business community that whether there is a clear relationship between ERP system application and enterprise output, and hasn't reached a consent yet. From the angle of organizational context, this paper conducted an in-depth study on the issue. With the questionnaire collected from 115 companies, we verified the proposed model. The results showed that ERP system usage has a positive impact on enterprise revenue, with process efficiency as a partial mediating factor in this process. In addition, the organizational factors - change management and top management support also have a positive impact to enterprise revenue, but their impact mechanisms are different, which were discussed later.ERP system application is a long-term process and effective risk management is essential. Referring to ERP performance curves with different phases, this paper presented a risk management model for ERP project based on ERP life-cycle model. We identified risks within each phase and introduced the procedure of risk analysis, risk evaluation, risk supervision. In the end, strategies of risk control are proposed for both enterprise and government.
