Communication and national fate have intriguing close relation, which contains some underlying rules, so that it can raise historical thinking. This dissertation focuses on the research question "how do communications affect national fate?", and studies the secrets of human communication behind the phenomena of rise and fall of nations by defining concepts, exploring theories, constructing models, and analyzing cases; it also brings inspiration to make realistic strategy for China's peaceful rising finally.Since the classic communication theory usually defines communication as "information transmitting", this dissertation broadens the concept of communication by strict theoretical analysis and melts all views of communication as "ritual sharing" "symbolic exchanging" and "natural dissemination" into a new pot together. Hence, the new concept of communication will make us think about human communication having the long-term, cumulative effect in history. By adopting analysis framework from the complex system, a model named as Dome of National Fate is established and the metaphor of dome is originated from the inspiration of viewing the magnificent colored glazing dome of Palaces at the Forbidden City in Beijing and glorious glass dome of Crystal Palace in London while it is sunrise and sunset. The complex system of "Communication and National Fate" is similar to imperial palace architecture, where the factors affected the national fate as the pillars. The communication infrastructure, the communication channels, the media and the content are constructed in an embedded form, elevating the pillars to support Dome of National Fate, bringing the force into the outside of the visual system of national fate. This model also demonstrates the intrinsic relations between communication and national character, national identity, national regulation and supervision, national mobilization, national strategy, national crisis and other factors as well as national fate. From an overall perspective, this dissertation focuses on studying some communication phenomena of historical events and historical circumstances within typical historical period in various of countries. Although different model curves and quintessential problems are represented in the development process of those countries, it is easy to be found that communication acted as an important role in history. In general, three main functions are summarized:the first could help a nation accelerate developing trend by forming positive feedback; the second could mitigate some of the changing process by forming negative feedback which can make the system more stable; the third could quickly mobilize and gather the internal forces and make the system to rejuvenate to a new life cycle when the crisis is coming; these three basically outlined the communication dynamic mechanisms in the complex system. Although the communication might not be the fundamental determinant, it would penetrate into all aspects of the complex system on the evolution of national fate and play an irreplaceable role in the end.Reflections on the history of the rise and fall of nations will illuminate the road of China's rising in the future. Historical data show that China is located in the top-right side of V shape in the national development curve, and it will continue to grow up in trendency. Above the Dome of China national fate, the prosperous and fortunate symbols are demonstrated gloriously, it is also essential for serious reflections on the history and Chinese people need to be vigilant in any time and be ready for national rejuvenation by dedicated work.
