The optical fiber communication upgrade to the ultrahigh speed, large quantity, long haul system, and step to all optical network. For support the system upgrade, the new requirement to the fiber is optimization of chromatic dispersion value, low dispersion slope, big effective area, lower polarization mode dispersion et al. to get over the dispersion limitation and nonlinear effect. So the development of new generation optical fiber has become the important foundation of the construction of the new telecommunication network.This thesis adopt the plasma chemical vapor deposition (PCVD) process to prepare the new non-zero dispersion shift optical fiber, combine the optimization of the effective area, dispersion slope, zero dispersion wavelength of the optical fiber, fabricate the new big effective area low dispersion slope non-zero dispersion shift optical fiber. Through the performance evaluation of the fiber's optical, geometrical, splice, mechanical, dispersion compensation, system performance, validate the feasibility of the application of this fiber in the new generation optical fiber communication system. The main research productions are:(1) Expound the significance of the non-zero dispersion shift optical fiber's effective area in the optical fiber communication system. Aim at the requirement of the fiber effective area, adjust the fiber refractive index structure, increase the fiber effective area with retain the fiber dispersion value, to reduce the nonlinear effect introduced by the optical fiber in the communication system;(2) Based on the requirement in the system application, optimize the dispersion slope with adjust the fiber refractive index construction. Combine the PCVD process to fabricate the new big area low dispersion slope non-zero dispersion shift optical fiber. And deep research on the fiber's optical, geometrical, splice, system transmission performance;(3) Through the simulation, the effective area and dispersion slope, would influence each other in the fiber design. With the experiment, focus on the system requirement, balance the performance of the two key characters;(4) System research of the application of the optical fiber in the communication system, to insure the feasibility of the employment of the new fiber in the new generation communication system.
