The various applications of Internet not only have come into almost every field of human life, but also have been changing the way of people's life. Understanding the performance of the Internet is remarkably important because of the increasingly significant role the Internet has played in society. The research on network performance measurement and analysis is a project that must be developed since it is the base of proper management and efficient control of the Internet and is of great value to construct the next generation Internet. With the rapid development of IP network, it has been becoming large and complex, and it has provided more and more multiple services, so it has more and more probability of failure. If the network has failure or does not operate well, it will affect the efficiency, even result in great loss. So the study on performance analysis method of IP network has been becoming more and more important requirement.Measuring and analyzing the network performance, and collecting the large number of performance data can find the change of performance and abnormal status. It is used to find the bottleneck of the network, optimize the network configure and find the latent danger in the network. These are very useful to improve the management of network capability and offer better quality of service and control. The measurement can also make the QoS comparison, quantity and validation to be possible. The study and design of IP network performance measurement system has becoming important content and hot issue for the study and building of IP network.In this paper, we use active measurement technique to probe the network performance. It can compensate for the deficiency of passive measurement and device based management used in traditional network management system, using which it is difficult to analyze the user's end-to-end applications and to guarantee the quality of network applications'performance.This thesis summarizes the status quo and development of network performance measurement technology, proposes a network performance measurement system based on TCP/IP protocol of the applicable and easy-to-use system, combining with the actual situation of network performance. We use this system to measure user-perceived network performance of four ISPs in China. A comprehensive performance evaluation criterion was proposed here to evaluate and analyse the user-perceived network performance, the results show the system is effect. Based on indepth research on network tomography, A* algorithm and ant algorithm are used to improve the performance of EM algorithm that usually used in network tomography, they accelerate the convergence speed and also satisfy the real-time requirement of network performance analysis. We propose an active network performance forwarning method and an active network congestion detection method under the study of network performance analysis. In the end, this paper provides an active network performance analysis system, it can do real-time network performance monitor, and give link-level monitor result, then summarize the whole system and point out the investigation direction of the future.
