Real objects' 3D reconstruction is one of the most important issues in Virtual Reality research area. It is being used more and more widely in many fields, such as digital collection of cultural heritages, film, television, advertisement, game. etc. The research an 3D shape reconstruction and texture reconstruction from photograph are two main aspects of modeling real objects. For 3D shape reconstruction, 3D scan, 3D model alignment and 3D model merging technologies can achieve high precision results now. However, for texture reconstruction from photograph, texture mapping and fusing technologies are still under developing.High precision texture reconstruction from photograph will focus on rebuilding integrated texture from several photographs of real object for a 3D model, and try to preserve the texture's resolution and color stability while processing. In the thesis, the entire texture reconstruction procedure and its related key technologies are analyzed and summarized. And, a high precision texture reconstruction solution will be presented in detail, which mainly consists of four parts, as following.1) Review of texture reconstruction technologiesThe development history of texture reconstruction technologies is reviewed. And, the camera calibration, texture anti-aliasing, texture fusing and BRDF reconstruction technologies are introduced and characterized. The newest research results of these technologies are also presented.2) Arbitrary corresponding points based texture mappingArbitrary corresponding points based texture mapping includes interactive texture mapping based on arbitrary corresponding points between the surface of 3D model and texture photograph, fast self-occlusion culling based on the extrinsic camera parameters, and texture coordinates rectification based on corresponding points.3) Global texture relig(?)ting and fusingGlobal texture relighting and fusing includes global relighting of multiple textures based on least mean-square error, global color correction of multiple textures based on least mean-square error, and weighted fusing of multiple overlapped textures.4) Fast BRDF parameters reconstructionFast BRDF parameters reconstruction is a fast and steady parameter solution method of global specular reflection and point-by-point diffuse reflection for Blinn BRDF models based on few samplings.By the researching on high precision texture reconstruction from photograph, a software program named "Texture Editing and Relighting Studio" has been developed and applied to the digital collection of cultural heritages. There are many digitization results in this thesis, which are from the Dunhuang Mogao Caves, the Jinsha Site, the Liangzhu Site and the Hemudu Site. These results show that the research work has significantly improved the quality of the texture, and the resolution and color stability of the textures have been preserved precisely as well.
