The research on MANET (Mobile Ad hoc Networks) shows more significant in resent years. Mobile Ad hoc networks has the features of no fixed infrastructure, temporarily networking, dynamic topology and self-organization. It can be deployed for conference, academic, disaster relief and rescue, roof networks and battlefields. This thesis mainly discusses the key technologies in virtual backbone-based Ad hoc networks, and it can be devided into three parts: construction and mobility of virtual backbone, virtual backbone based Ad hoc routing protocols.Introduction of virtual backbone-based Ad hoc routing is given in Chapter 2. This chapter introduced the theory of CDS algorithms be used to building virtual backbone-based networks in UDG, analyzed the principle and application of wireless MAC protocols, summarized existed CDS algorithms and Ad hoc routing protocols, and provided a new architecture of virtual backbone-based Ad hoc networks.Chapter 3 mainly discussed the construction algorithms of Ad hoc virtual backbone, provided a new cost priority distributed approximate CDS algorithm and showed it is useful by examples and simulations, provided an enhanced load-balanced CDS algorithm based on existing CDS algorithms and showed that the performance of load-balance is significantly improved by simulation.Chapter 4 mainly discussed the mobility of virtual backbone, provided a open/close CDS algorithm and a moving CDS algorithm based on the former. These algorithms can be implemented and the result is very good in simulation. Chapter 5 introduced the virtual backbone-based routing protocols, provided a virtual backone based distributed ad hoc routing (VBDAR), and compared with classic ad hoc protocols, provided a QoS routing architecure and given the details.Chapter 6 introduced the combination of Mobile IP, MPLS and Ad hoc virtual backbone based routing, it shows the future researches of Ad hoc virtual backbone.
