There are a large number of large-scale interconnected systems in the practical engineering systems, for example, industrial process control, power system, digital communication networks and so on. On the other hand, it is well known that time delays are often encountered in various engineering systems, and frequently the existence of time delays is a source of unsatisfactory control system performance and instability. Therefore, to investigate the stability and control for time-delay systems and large-scale interconnected time-delay systems is of importance in control theory and its application.This dissertation focuses on control problems of time delay systems and large-scale interconnected time-delay systems, which covers the problems of decentralized control and decentralized robust control, H_∞ control, guaranteed cost control, fault-tolerant control, fuzzy control and α-control, and so on. The main research work is as follows:1 Decentralized control procedures for the linear large-scale interconnected time-delay systems by the state feedback and observer-based feedback are presented respectively. Sufficient conditions for the existence of decentralized state feedback and observer-based controllers, which can guarantee asymptotically stable of the large-scale interconnected time-delay systems, are derived via linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach.2 Decentralized H_∞ control for the linear large-scale interconnected time-delay systems is discussed by the state feedback, static-output feedback, dynamic-output feedback and observer-based feedback. Sufficient conditions for the existence of H_∞ controllers are established using LMI approach.3 Decentralized robust H_∞ control for the linear large-scale interconnected time-delay systems is developed by the state-feedback and dynamic-output feedback. The resulting controllers guarantee closed-loop systems asymptotic stability and H_∞ -norm bound on disturbance attenuation.4 The guaranteed cost control problem is studied for the linear uncertain large-scale interconnected time-delay systems. Methods of designing optimal guaranteed cost controllers are given.5 The problem of fault-tolerant control for the linear large-scale interconnected time-delay systems is considered.
