The Internet and the education will be two important impelling forcesof social progresses in the 21st century, and the network-based distancelearning is the perfect union of these two impetuses. The modern distancelearning is a new education way, which is developed and produced alongwith the modern information technology, and it is the main method whichconstructs the lifelong study system in the knowledge-economy era.Interactive communication is one kind of main patterns ofcommunication in the future and it is an essential means in teachingprocess. The method which supports the interactive study process is beinga new technology.Academician Zhang Jingzhong has proposed a characteristic concept andtheory of "the intelligent platform of education", and has carried on themassive teaching practice. Academician Zhang Jingzhong and hiscollaborators realize that, the concept and theory of intelligentplatform of education is at the beginning, only the education practiceof its software development and application is carried on, the practicalcontribution to education information can be made then. Under the overallskeleton of the intelligent platform of education, the thesis is devotedto the intelligent platform of education based on the Web and itsinteractive technology with emphasis.The main contributions of the thesis include:(1) The model of Web page's embedded annotation, the share andrecombination of the annotation information are proposed and implemented.With the model, annotation can not only be made on any Web page fromarbitrary Web server directly on line, but also can be positionedaccurately, shared and recombined freely. It changes the read-onlypattern of study to read-write one based on the Web page. This has providedthe individual learner who obtains information primarily by browsing onthe Web with a tool which supports asynchronous and cooperative study.It has also provided an important interactive means of cooperative studyand personalized study in the distance learning.(2) A method of formal description of plane geometry graphics isproposed. With the method, an intelligent drawing system of dynamicgeometry on the Web is implemented based on a new graphics standard---SVG(Scalable Vector Graphics) for the Web. At last, an electronicwhiteboard supporting intelligent drawing of dynamic geometry on the Webis discussed and implemented.(3) The descriptions of mathematical symbol and expression with LaTeXand MathML(Mathematical Markup Language) are analyzed respectively. Thedynamic transformation of mathematical expression from LaTeX to MathMLhas been implemented preliminarily. The problem of edition andpresentation of mathematical expression on dynamic Web pages has beensolved, which provides a good solution of mathematical expression inBBS(Bulletin Board System) and IM(Instant Message), and has been appliedin the IIMS(Intelligent Instant Message System) successfully.
