By the combination of antenna array and advanced signal processing technology, the smart antenna system can perform adaptive array signal processing, the resulting advantages attract many researches in the fields of communication and signal processing. Recent years, smart antenna has been adopted as one of key technologies of the third generation mobile communication system, and is being studied and developed further in the new techniques and standard of the forth generation mobile communication system. Smart antenna system uses adaptive beamforming technology, provides high quality of data link for cellular system, increases coverage range of base station antennas, decreases the interferences of inter-code and multiple access and the transmission power; Smart antenna system uses the direction of arrivals(DOA) estimation technology can provide the directions of beamforming for beamformers, as well as obtain direction of moving mobile stations and provide positioning service for mobile telecommunication applications,Considering the problems and potentials mentioned above, this dissertation focuses on the moving target tracking and the beamforming algorithms design for smart antenna system. The main contributions of this dissertation are as follows:1. An adaptive moving target tracking algorithm is proposed, which includes DOA estimation and tracking of moving target in time-variant angular dispersive environment. For the DOA estimation, we derive theoretically a maximum likelihood estimation algorithm, and propose a low-complexity suboptimal algorithm that can simultaneously estimate the DOA and dispersion deviation. For tracking of moving target, we propose a Kalman filtering based adaptive tracking algorithm. Analysis and simulation results show that the proposed suboptimal algorithm has better performance than conventional subspace based methods, and lower complexity than maximum likelihood methods. Also the proposed moving target tracking algorithm is demonstrated can adaptively track the moving target, overcoming the bigger tracking errors of the conventional tracking algorithms.2. A low-complexity multiple sidelobe canceller based adaptive beamforming algorithm is proposed. By using a set of beams to construct the blocking...
