Nowadays computing technology is changing from computer-centric manner into human-centric one. Mobile computing plays a very important role in this change and has become the hotspot of research. How to trace mobile hosts effectively and how to establish the communication with them rapidly,i.e. mobility management, has become one of the challenging topics in mobile computing. It is significant in mobile computing that rational, effective and optimized mobility management schemas are conceived and their algorithms are proved to be feasible according to some strict theories. This dissertation pioneers the research field where Vector Markov Process theory and Density Evolution method are applied to studying mobility management strategies. Pointer Forward Schema with a Threshold (Threshold Schema for short) and Self-adjust Mobility management schema (Self-adjust Schema for short) are addressed, after several drawbacks of current mobility management schemas are analyzed. The probability of the number of the location areas crossed by a mobile host and the probability of the length of the pointer chains of Threshold Schema are derived. Furthermore, the performance and cost of Threshold Schema,Self Schema,Pointer Forward Schema, and current mobility management schema are evaluated and contrasted by means of the above probability formulas. In addition, simulation is applied to studying the situation that a mobile host roams across location areas, the simulation algorithm is proposed, and a Microsoft C++ (6.0) simulation program is attached. The simulation results show that there is a locality in a mobile host roaming. It should be pointed out that theories, methods and results introduced in this dissertation are quite useful in such research areas as mobile software including mobile agents, mobile e-commerce,satellite navigation, global position system, digital battlefield in military affairs, rescue, wireless networks, wireless web surfing, the improvement of current mobile communication networks, and the design of the next generation mobile communication networks.
