Photonic crystal (PC) is a kind of artificial microstructure whose dielectricconstant varies periodically in space. The PCs optoelectric functional devicesdepended on the photonic band gap (PBG) and the photon localization show thefollowing advantages: compact structure, high integration level and the appealingoptical functionalities, and will play an important role in the future integratedphotonic/optical circuit and all-optical networks.Based on the practical needs of the future integrated photonic/optical circuit andall-optical networks, the coupling mode theory and the two-dimensional PCswaveguide devices were investigated, and the following novel progress were gained:1. The coupling mode theory of the parallel PCs resonator array was developed. Itwas found that the coupling efficiency of the coupling structure between the PCswaveguide and the parallel resonator array was influenced by the amount and thequality factors of the resonators. The optimization of the above parameters isimportant to enhance the coupling efficiency.2. The PCs side-coupled system, a novel approach that can achieve the efficientcoupling between the PCs waveguide and the light source was proposed. Under theworking wavelength of1550nm, the PCs single-channel and double-channel side-coupled system can realize the coupling efficiency about94.49%and95.47respectively.3. The PCs structure and the nanowire waveguide was used to construct the PCsasymmetric resonator. Depended on the PCs asymmetric resonator, the efficientcoupling between the PCs and the nanowire waveguide was realized. For thenanowire waveguide with width of1.05μm and length of3.06μm, the couplingsystem can achieve the coupling efficiency about98.64%.4. Two kinds of two-stage PCs beam compressor was design. The beamcompressor based on the spatial coupling of the PCs waveguides can realize thetransmission efficiency and the compression ratio about93.4%and16.08respectively. And the FWHM (Full Wave at Half Maximum) of the output beam isonly about0.148μm. The beam compressor relied on the PCs resonator was alsodesigned, the transmission efficiency; the compression ratio and the FWHM of theoutput beam are94.6%,14.875and0.16μm respectively.
