Chinese traditional medicine (TCM) is the experience that our country people make struggles withdisease for several thousand years. Not only the curative effect is reliable, the side effect is small,moreover compares with the modern medicine, TCM has certain superiority and the potential inaspects of prevention, health care, keeping in good health, recovery and so on. Look,heard and smell,ask,touch are the TCM four diagnosis methods. Facial color inspection of TCM (CITCM) byobserving the patient's facial features color change to understand the disease is an important part ofChinese diagnosis. This paper designed and developed a TCM facial complexion inspection objectiveresearch system. Then, a preliminary quantitative research has been made using this system.Image acquisition system is the hardware base of CITCM objectifying research system. In thissystem, light is the first element, natural light is easily influenced by time, environment and climate.So, the standard light source is needed to establish firstly which must be strong stability, good color,close to the color of natural light. According the standard lighting and observation conditionrecommended by the International Commission on Illumination and the artificial standard light sourceconditions made by the International Organization for standardization, this paper design andmanufacture a standard light source environment which is mainly made up of the xenon light sourceand integrating sphere. Through the light stability experiments, light uniformity experiments,illumination experiments, camera mode experiments and CITCM image acquisition experiments, it isconfirmed that the light source and lighting conditions can be used to collect better consistency andcomparability of the image.Software system is the main body of CITCM objectifying research system, including imageprocessing software, database software and data analysis software in three parts. Color imageprocessing software is the core of the software system. In this paper, we applied digital imageprocessing and MATLAB programming language, take CITCM image under standard illumination asthe specific study object, use image filtering and segmentation to locate facial features, extract facialregions corresponding with five internal organs according to TCM theory through edge detection andmorphology and calculate chromatic data in RGB and Lab space respectively. The database is animportant part of CITCM software system. It is responsible for data storage, use and management.According to the actual need, this paper has developed the database foundation procedure, thedatabase search program, the database servicing procedure and the database file. The large amounts of CITCM data produced by the image processing software have a graphical display, classification andcomparision by data analysis software.Finally, the traditional Chinese medicine facial color inspection system is applied to preliminarystudy. Under the standard light source,we gathered100sample images, the image processingsoftware is used to calculate special region chromaticity, the database software is used to establish theCITCM database file, the classified data is compared and the relationship between chromatic data andbiochemical data is analyzed. Experimental studies have shown the entire system can providechromatic date of specific regions for CITCM objectifying research and lay basis for the future imagedisease recognition.
