Research On Text Region Extraction Method In Color Map

To extract the text regions from a map is a difficult thing in the field of image segmentation . The existing method often pays attention to text recognition, but the extracting process is very little involved.This paper gives a new method for the extraction of text regions in a map. In this method, color maps are concerned. The Sobel edge detection operator is expanded in the color space, and is used in the edge extraction of the color maps. The characters of text regions are analyzed. The edge ratio of the text regions to a map is used to set a threshold value for binarization processing; the characters of pixels are used to extract the text regions; the morphology method and the projection method are used to correct the result. This method finally gives the candidate text block. This paper also discusses a recognition technique for the recognition of the text in a map.Experiments show the feasibility of this method.
