Zhuang Autonomous Region, To The Relational Process Of Adaptation To The Environment

In China, Zhuang nationality is a minority group that has a larger population and higher level of Hanization than other nationalities. The past researches on Zhuang people mainly focus on its history, culture, customs, language and so on, but its relations to the geographical environment, especially how this ethnic group adapted itself to environment and the consequences have been neglected.. In this dissertation, we will discuss the interaction between Zhuang nationality's development strategy and the geographical environment, by analyzing the adaptation from two aspects--the natural environment and the cultural environment, to reveal the nature of the evolution essence of relations between human and geographical environment in Zhuang areas.The change of natural and human environment are the basic geographical factors influencing the development of a ethnic group, and the perception of environment and relevant adaptation are crucial to it. Zhuang nationality's adaptation to environment mainly is manifested in all fields relevant to farming, production and living.The ulitization and protection of water and wood recourses, farming work, the planting of crops, and the development of husbandry and hunting, all demand measurable consideration on the differences of the local environment, and proper and effective measures, for better economics benefits. The adaptation of Zhuang nationality to the cultural environment mainly is presented by the changes in the size of its territory, the shaping of its own image and the adjustment of its relations to other nationalities, etc. Generally speaking, "Hanization" is the chief way of adaptation.Zhuang nationality's adaptation to natural environment and that of cultural environment are interrelated, and mutually influenced. The process of adaptting to natural environment is also a process in which Zhuang nationality utilize and change the nature. The adjustment of relations between cultural and geographical environment is always manifested by the cultural convention . In other words, some measures by which Zhuang nationality adapt to the human environment, such as customs, the changes in social system, etc. finally will influence the changes of natural environment . So, Zhuang nationality's adaptation to environment is a process in which various factors are involved and interacted.The continous immigration of Han nationality plays an important role in Zhuang nationality's adaptation to the environment,and is considered the chief outside motivating factor that facilitates the evolution of Zhuang civilization. From the outside As in emperor Kangxi's Reign and that of emperor Qianlong's, More and more Han people were immigrating to Zhuang areas and surpassed the latter in its population, these two periods were considered the turning points(transitional phase) for the changes of the relations between cultural and geographical environment.
