University follows the transcendence of human nature since its birth. But for a long time the nature is ignored because people universities adapt to the needs of social development as the objects of the university. Whether for the society or for individuals, university education become a means to realize some actual purposes, this will inevitably lead to universities to tools status in the society. Under the influence of this ideology, the universities not only meet the various needs as people want, and the Subjectivity of the University and sustainable development capabilities have been weakened. So the ideology of transcendent university which beyond tools status and beyond the actual needs has aroused people's attention gradually.Philosophical significance of "transcendent" includes triple meanings. The triple meanings involve two categories, one category includes two relative conceptions-"external transcendent" and "internal transcendent", the other one is a verb which means the process of transcendence. External transcendent point prior issues, knowledge which in order to solve these issues called metaphysics, our universities often called it basic theory. "Internal transcend" is a conception in Chinese philosophy, its meaning to pedagogy is to emphasize the subject status of human being and non-utilitarian oriented content of education. The meaning of its verb form refers the means or methods of transcend. There are several different but mixed theories for the transcendent source of human being: The first is the "Vacant theory" or "Unfinished Theory"; the second is Maslow's "Hierarchy theory of needs" and the third is "Free Will Theory". Education and the transcendence of human being are compact; the University not only is the place to realize transcendence, but also is the obvious reflection of transcendence of human nature.The method of analyzing the transcendence of University is beginning with the basic day-to-day affairs of university. It is said that the transcendence of University embodies in its basic functions which include scientific research, teaching and social services. Research is a very important function to the University, and basic theoretical research is the most important part of scientific research. Liberal education is a kind of education ideology which beyond utilitarian, pay attention to universal values and the intrinsic value, the ideology has great influence on West University. Social services were considered the third basic function of modern university, but the difference exits between Oriental culture and Western culture for us understanding it(the meaning of the social service functions we now understand is only a narrow concept of economics). University the important role of the society should reflect through research function and teaching function.Transcendence of university is also manifest as an integral university organization through comparing several groups opposite concept: "transcendence and adaptation", "transcendence and localization","transcendence and conservation". "Transcendence and adaptation" corresponding to the university transcending the society;"transcendence and localization" corresponding to the University transcending each other within the system; "transcendence and conservation" corresponding to an University transcending itself. Based on the Discrimination of their similarities and differences we can understand better the connotation of the transcendence of university.Why over the years people do not concern or recognize the transcendence of university? How does the dilemma form? Through comparison of the history we can discovery Western University generated spontaneously and fundamentally, which has a strong self-organizing capacity and is succeeded in maintaining a sustainable development capacity; Chinese universities are established by the government and shows obvious "exogenous" feature. Universities in the west and China follow two adverse trends: "top-down" and "bottom-up", which exerts great influence upon the precipitation of university spirit and the shaping of its system. From the actual level, the institution is not in a extrinsic framework of the University, the views and concepts of people in university are helping forming the system, regime change is interactive results between the superstructure and fundamental groups.
