Abstract/Summary:
The development of New Economy brings new challenges to management science, the role knowledge plays in gaining national and enterprises' competitive advantage becomes the favorite son of research and practice. New Product Development (NPD) is a crucial way to gain success. NPD is exactly a knowledge-intensive process in enterprise, during which the knowledge embodied in NPD talents is the open sesame. Thus, meeting the demand of new competition environment, the research of coupling knowledge management with NPD talents management is of great value for enterprises' sustainable competitive advantage.The dissertation first establishes the framework of coupling KM with NPD talents management. By analyzing the three possible relation modes between KM and NPD talents management, the coupling relationship is justified. According to actor-network theory, the dissertation offers an evolution model of enterprise's NPD capability and a process model for coupling KM with NPD talents management oriented to competitive advantage, based on which the key coupling domains ( KCDs ) , namingly knowledge structure and identification, organizational integration of knowledge, knowledge sharing, internal and external learning of knowledge, are targeted.In the knowledge structure and identification KCD, the underlying mechanism between knowledge structure and competitive advantage is analyzed from four dimensions: the scope dimension, the depth dimension, the uniqueness dimension and that oriented to different NPD capability components, according to which the diversified knowledge community and knowledge overlapping strategies are suggested. By introducing the knowledge space concept, the dissertation argues that knowledge identification is to find the projection of knowledge on the width, depth and other knowledge structure dimensions; different identification strategies for explicit and tacit knowledge are also offered.In the KCDs of organizational integration of knowledge, the dissertation offers an organization strategy selection model based on organization information processing theory (OIPT), the effectiveness of a certain organization strategy is analyzed from two aspects: knowledge integration capability of an organization strategy and the knowledge integration need of the project. A new organization strategy named membrane strategy that aims to improve NPD dynamic knowledge integration capability is suggested.In knowledge sharing KGD, the obstacles of knowledge sharing are analyzed. By partitioning knowledge into that of great utility expectations and that of low harm expectations, the role of different obstacles in sharing knowledge is analyzed. For the first kind of knowledge, through analyzing its quasi-public good character, the dissertation adopts a game model to analyze its sharing, corresponding countermeasures are suggested. For the second kind of knowledge, the method of knowledge sharing network analysis is offered.Internal learning is analyzed from two aspects: individual learning and team learning. Individual learning mechanic model and team learning model are offered. Based on that, the break-point learning strategy and its practical use are suggested.The dissertation analyzes the role external learning plays during different technology development stages, and divides external learning into sensing stage and responding stage. Strategies aiming at overcoming the subject and object obstacles in acquiring new knowledge during responding stage are offered.The dissertation analyzes the connotation and significance of coupling effectiveness measurement. The general steps of coupling effectiveness measurement based on Composite Data Envelopment Analysis are offered, which are illustrated through an example. Finally, implications for Chinese enterprises aiming to implement the coupling of KM and NPD talents management are offered.
