In exploring the road for Russian revolution and construction and discovering the law of the development of backward countries, Lenin brings forth the Theory of Social Development, which is a significant component part of his theoretical system. This theory puts forward Marxist theory of social development under the new circumstance of imperialism and proletarian revolution. Taking the world history from the end of nineteenth century to the early twentieth century into consideration, Lenin creatively applies to eastern countries Marx's general theory of social development, the theory of world history, and the thought of finding their own way of development. Thereupon he expounds the theory of non-capitalist development, which can be applied to the backward eastern countries, and he explains dialectically the relationship between the development of the world and the development of each nation. Moreover, Lenin also creatively applies the material conception of history to Russian society, objectively analyzes the basic contradiction of Russian society in its transitional period, and preliminarily proves the motive force of social development in socialist society. After he conceives in an all-round way the aim of development in backwardcountries, Lenin points out that a complete socialist society can be established only when the backward countries have accomplished industrialization, commercialization, democratization, legalization, and co-operation transformation. He emphasizes that these goals can never be achieved without the promotion of culture revolution because culture revolution can not only give birth to a new kind of civilization, but also bring up a new generation. These thoughts advanced by Lenin present themselves such features as pragmaticality, dialecticality, and popularity, which mirror the ultimate concern of Lenin for the all-round development of human kind. Therefore, Lenin's Theory of Social Development, which is formed by all the thoughts mentioned, acts as an important source of the theory of social development of Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping. It is a theory of instructive significance in promoting the great practice of socialist modernization and social development. |
