Silting through the deep and careful textual research on Xu Zhenqing's life, his works and his contact with "seven-scholar school",the author tries to place Xu in his concomitant society and culture contexts. That is to say, from the perspective of all kinds of relationships, the author will make a comprehensive study and a real judgment according with historical facts on Xu,at the same time the paper also revolves mainly around his thoughts, his poetry concept, the formation and variation of his poetry style, as well as his associations with the cultural tradition of Central Wu region,Central Wu literators and the prior "seven-scholar school",and so on.The main contents are as follows:the first chapter mainly verifies Xu's life and discourses his works. He passed the Jin Shi("Advanced Literatorship") examination in Hongzhi 18 year, thus, his life was generally divided into two periods——Central Wu period and his official career. The second chapter discusses the course of Xu's thoughts, including his ideas in Central Wu period, the evolutions of his ideological theory after entering the Capital as well as his "eschatology" and metaphysics thoughts. The third chapter expounds Xu's poetic theory and his works "'Utterance on Arts".From the perspective of "returning to the ancients",the poet attempts to build a system of poetic theory centering around the core "emotion" which drives such theoretical elements of Xu's poetry thoughts as "qi","sound","phrasing","verse","thought".While taking into account the social politics, the ideological trend as well as the culture trend of Central Wu literators' "returning to the ancients" and the expansion of aestheticism at that time,we find that they provides a favorable circumstance to Xu's theory of "affections-advocated ideology" and his "returning to the ancients".The concept of "classical style based on refined affections" discusses the correlation of "style" and "feelings".The fourth chapter explores the relationship between Xu's poetry creation in prophase and the regional factors of Central Wu.This paper interprets the basic feature of "deep emotion" of Xu's poetry creation in prophase, and in these poetries, the "gloomy mood" and the choosing image system engender its sentimental poetic atmosphere.Xu's poetry creation in prophase mainly dissolves into the cultural custom of Central Wu,representing strong regional characteristics of Central Wu and noticeable individuality, and his theory of "affections-advocated ideology" particularly extrudes itself in the idea-centered poetic circles of Central Wu.The fifth chapter makes a textual study on the acquaintance and intercourse between Li Meng-yang,standing for the prior "seven-scholar school" and Xu as well as his transformation on later poetry creation. And then the author gives a detailed analysis on Xu's Yue Fu poetry in later period. The last chapter analyzes the controversy between Li Mengyang and Xu,and makes an investigation, over the agreement and difference between Xu's theory of "affections-advocated ideology" and Li's theory of"returning to the ancients".
