Lu kuei-meng was a famous writer in Xiantong and Qianfu Eras of Late Tang Dynasty. He had never been any official although he had well known ancestors and great ambition. His suffering figured his personality that includes unscrupulous, honesty, fogyism, self-pity, recreant, etc.As a poet, Lu kuei-meng was good at learning from former famous poets such as Tao Yuanming, Xie Lingyun, Du Fu and Han Yu, et al. He also learned a lot from Yuefu folk song and created many excellent similar poems. Therefore, his works have many diversifications in which steepness and watenness are the two most obvious features. The former uses hyperbolic writing skills and adopting singular words to embody the emotions of the author which leaves great impression on the readers. The later includes even contents, composed emotion and ordinary words which origins from Lu's seclusive life and his standing aloof from the worldly affairs. Before Late Tang dynasty, writing skills of all kinds of poems have reached very high level. Lu kuei-meng didn't follow other poets and therefore, he showed great difference in his poems in which QiLv has the most obvious feature. The contents of his QiLv poems are mostly based on daily life. His creative writing skills include adopting unfamiliar literary quotations, spoken language and slangs in his poems. He also use very different rhythms to pursue novel beauty which is very like the aesthetic pursuit of poems in Song Dynasty. All of the above reasons have explained why we named Lu a special poet that plays a significant "relaying" role in the switching period from Tang poem to Song poem.Lu spent most of his life along the Jiangnan Taihu Basin where the environment and culture tradition have greatly influenced his personality and poem style. Being a reclusive poet, Lu's seclusive living style and poems have been accpected by people in the afterworld. In some dynasties, people attached more importance to regarding him as a hermit. On the contrary, in some dynasties, people would more to look him as a poet other than a hermit. In Late Tang and Five Dynasties, Lu was famous for his poems. In Song Dynasty, his personality and reclusive living style have been accepted by literators of all orders, while his poems have attracted negligible attention. In Jin and Yuan Dynasties, Lu kuei-meng was still being regarded as a hermit with great influence though in this period, his very important embracer Yuan Haowen appeared who have drawed more attention to Lu's poems. In Ming and Qing Dynasties, with the development of poetry criticism and with the apperance of controversy between the poem of Tang and Song, Lu's poems have attracted more attention than before. During this period, people often enjoyed commenting on Lu's poems, they also adopted more Lu's poems into peotry anthology, furthermore, they even directly simulated Lu's writing skills. All those phenomena indicated that in those two dynasties, people would more like to regarding Lu as a poet. To Lu's poems, although people have different opinions which ranges from criticism to praise, they have gradualy recognized the similarities between Lu's poems and Song poems and they have began to know the clear role of Lu in the switching period from Tang poem to Song poem.
