Abstract/Summary:
The main topic of this paper is studying the Cheng brothers' core thought--'neishen-waiwang' (Sageliness within and kingliness without) in the horizon of philosophy of praxis. The Chinese saying, 'neishen-waiwang' (Sageliness within and kingliness without), is a Confucian's core thought. It is often used to express Confucian's moral and political ideal, and embody Confucian's practical spirit. As forerunners of Sung Neo-Confucians and ancestors of Cheng-Chu school, the two Cheng brothers generalize their thought as 'neishen-waiwang', while they struggle with Buddhism and Wang An-shi's 'The Jing Gong New Theory ' in theory. Their thought of 'neishen-waiwang' base on the doctrine of 'liyi fenshu'(the principle is one, its manifestation are many), and take 'ti-yong yiyuan,xian-wei wujian'(Substance and function come from the same source, and there is no gap between the manifest and the hidden) as guideline. The paper illuminates that their thought of 'neishen-waiwang' found on the theory of Hsin (Mind) and Hsing (Nature), and aim to realize Benevolent Government. They take 'neishen'(Sageliness within) as root, and 'waiwang'(kingliness without ) as tip; take 'neishen' as beginning, and 'waiwang' as end; take 'neishen' as substance, and 'waiwang' as function. As we all know, Aristotle's philosophy of praxis is beginning of the tradition of the western philosophy of praxis. Praxis is a key concept of Aristotle's philosophy. Praxis, is just action, means the ethical and political action different from productive labor or making in Aristotle's philosophy of praxis. So, ethics and politics become the main part of Aristotle's philosophy of praxis. Aristotle's philosophy of praxis cares about the action of the human being through thinking of Good, and researches on the basic problem of the meaning of the human's existence. It points out the political origin of moral actions, and the moral meaning and moral purpose of the Politics. And moral and politics are a unity in it.The paper illuminates that the Cheng brothers' thought of 'neishen-waiwang' is not only put the classical Confucian's thought forward, but also manifest a kind of particularity of philosophy of praxis. Because the Cheng brothers' thought of 'neishen-waiwang' discuss mainly the relation of moral and political. It similarly cares about all kinds of actions of the human being in the family, nation and world (mainly moral and political actions), and researches on the basic problem of the meaning of the human's existence through thinking of Good. So, the paper based on the Cheng brothers' thought of 'neishen-waiwang' manifests the practical spirit of the Confucianism, and illuminates that the Confucianism is of a kind of particularity of philosophy of praxis finally.
