contents discipline is a kind of academic culture that belongs to the field of upper stratum and social consciousness. It has close connection with social consciousness and is deeply influenced by it, especial the academic trend of each times. The catalogues compiled by the ancient scholars not only recorded the origin and disappearance, but also reflected the variation of academy of each times, stated the system and origination of academic development and made the valuation to the academy and authors. Therefore, the catalogue of this ancient work involved in the development of the ancient academy is an indispensable part of Chinese ancient academy , the valuation of which is of the great significance to the study of ancient academy.The summary of general catalogue of SIKUQUANSHU, the biggest ancient catalogue , compiled in Qianlong period of Qing dynasty is the essence of ancient works that lay in the mature stage. The work not only includes the development of ancient academy, but also lurk the cultural psychology and cultural thought in the eighteenth century. The thousands of summaries of this work has high academic merit and academic valuation and contains rich academic thought and academic approachs, but since it appeared two hundreds years ago , the academic circle only considered it as a kind of a work of content discipline and ignore of its important academic valuation such as the fair argument, real records, etc. In fact, the valuation of its content discipline is only a superficial phenomenon. Investigated from the culture history and the thought history, the summary of general catalogue of SIKUQUANSHU is a work with enormous system and accurate academy history that records the ancient works from a certain academic thought, represents the conclusion and critics to the thousands of academic development in that times and reflects sharply the academic characteristics and conceptions in the eighteenth century.This essay tries to compare the compiled separate drafts from Weng fanggang, Yao nai, Shao jinhan with the summary of general catalogue of SIKUQUANSHU to study deeply the actors that influence the academic thought and its methodology in the summary of general catalogue of SIKUQUANSHU from the angle academy history and thought history and to expose the contents and essence of the academic thought and methodology in it and master the real significance and great valuation in the eminent work.Following the preface, this essay makes a careful research to the academic thought and methodology from three respective. Firstly, it argues the history background and compiled process of the summary of general catalogue of SIKUQUANSHU. The background of this work is analyzed from the angle of politics, economy, culture, academy and thought, etc, and then the compiled process is investigated. The relationship between the separate summary compiled and the summary of general catalogue of SIKUQUANSHU, the difference of content and the cause of the differing are argued prudently, too. According to the discreet study, it comes to the conclusion that the work is simply not written by JI yunyi or assigned by emperor Qian long, but is a work compiled by collective whose leader is Ji yunyi. Its academic thought closely connected with the eighteenth academic trend reflected the dominant academic thought that considered learning of Song dynasty as important, but that of Song I as negligible things in the eighteenth century and embodied the traditional official thought characteristics. Secondly, this essay deeply arranged the academic sources and academic background of JINGSHIZIJI and studied its thought and methodology from the document and methodology to outline an orderly system about the acedemic thought and methodology. Thirdly, the acedemic thought ang methodology of the great work compiled in the last dynasty of fedual society ,after all, have the advantage and base of mature acedemy, but it also has the pedantic aspect affected by the social decline, therefore we must fairly and objectively valuate its acedemic valuation. In short, this essay get the new conclusion from basic materials and the differing investigation.
