The thesis focuses on examining Zhang Yimou's movies and analyzing the study of his movies nowadays from cultural reflection point of view. In the beginning part of the paper, the overall background of Zhang's movies, such as the cultural layout of the 1980s, the fresh re-recognition of Chinese Movie itself as well as the defection of the 5th directors on the Chinese movie tradition are viewed and the cultural and mind factors that cause Zhang's movies are explored. Based on the analysis, this paper concludes that there is a close relation between Zhang's movies and the overall cultural background in China. In the following part, the detailed study and analysis of Zhang's movies is offered by using misreading theory. It is inevitable that any literary or art copies would receive various degree of misreading from their audiences of different cultural origins in their process of transmition. That is the same to Zhang's movies. Hence, the study of his movies on the misreading point of view could not only distinguish the truth from falsehood, but also provide a brand new viewpoint on the further study of Zhang's movies.The commercialization of movie has been one of the puzzles for Chinese Movie industry. How to combine the commercial and art factors together successfully to present good movies is a big concern for Chinese movie workers, and it has great influences on the future of Chinese Movie industry. From this point of view, Zhang's endless trying on the commercial movies may reveal the promised and charming future of the commercialization of Chinese movies.At last the cultural hegemony of Zhang's movies is examined in this thesis. There are mainly two kinds of reasons: the natural result of the talent of his movies and the weak and unbalanced layout of Chinese movie. The paper concludes that the cultural hegemony is of no good for the developments of Chinese movie, as it may damage the art ecology of various developments, and the monotony and bourgeois caused by it should be pay more attention to.
