A Study On The Tibetan Economy During Song And Yuan Periods

The Tibet dynasty disintegrated during the late Tang dynasty. The old social, economic, and political organizational form in Tibetan country had been taken place a great transformation. The government of Yuan dynasty established a new feudal economic system of suzerain manor and integration of religion and politics after Tibet came over and pledged allegiance to Yuan dynasty. It is also an important period that Tibetan specific type of economic system had developed. This thesis is studied on the economic history of Tibet area during Sony and Yuan dynasty. It introduced the basic situation about Tibetan society development during the period of Song and Yuan dynasty in the first part of thesis. The mainly body of the thesis is divided into six parts: 1. Economic system. 2. Stockbreeding. 3. Agriculture. 4. Handicraft Industry. 5. Architecture. 6.Commerce. The thesis shows the particulars of each side of Tibetan economic system according to time priority. At last , it draws a conclusion on the status, characteristics and value of tibetan area's economy during Song and Yuan PeriodsThe Tibet has an immense territory, it divided into three mainly regions according to the natural conditions: Wei Tibetan Area, Ando Tibetan Area, Kang Tibetan Area. and it also divided into two parts according to the distance to Song and Yuan empire : the border Tibetan area, the centre Tibetan area. The economic development was not in equilibrium during the Song and Yuan dynasty. Some regions in the river valley which is suitable to agriculture and Stockbreeding developed fast, some regions on the dry, cold and high altitude mountainous area in north Tibet got behind. Compare the period in Song and Yuan dynasty with the period in Tibet dynasty the agriculture, stockbreeding, handicraft industry, commerce and so on made a great development. Not so as some scholar think that economy decline in the period of Tibet separation, and it resumed after the Yuan dynasty united the Tibet.The intercourse between the Tibet area and the centre area and the area around the Tibet lasted out during the period of Song and Yuan dynasty, it became much more osculation with the economy development and the Buddhism spread. Tibet economy has their special trait in handicraft industry , Fane economy and commerce. These established the Ming and Qing dynasty economical foundation.
