Study On The Word Classes Of Fayan

FaYan is a philosophy dialog literature written by Yangxiong between Xi Han and Dong Han Dynasty. By the dialog of I and someone, it advocated orthodox Confucian idea and elenchus Zhuzi's viewpoint or other matters which are not fit to Confucian idea.FaYan was considered that the language is very difficult and imitated to previous language just like the Analects all through, but this is only a superficial view, as an important dialog literature of the two Han Dynasty, Fayan's language should be studied, especially, the word classes in it. It is the first thesis that all-sided research of Fayan's word class was done. This paper will firstly do an all-sided research on Fayan's word class.Cenerally, Fayan had lots of valuable grammar phenomena which were related to the Language of the time, although there were materials imitated to ancient Chinese Language.The paper is a special grammar study on Fayan which is structured in two parts. There were ten chapters in the first part with parallel description methods. They were respectively about noun, verb, adjective, pronoun, adverb, preposition, conjunction, particle words, auxiliary word, and exclamation.Some of them didn't change too much, because it was exact reality or imitated to ancient Chinese Language; Some new words were presents, for example, pronoun "huoren", negative adverbs "man", and hypothetical conjunction "zai" only be present in Fayan.Some words had new usage in Fayan, for example, location word "yixia" could denote time in Fayan, but couldn't originally, and some only could be found in Fayan, for example, conjunction "yu" which denote selective relation.The second part of the paper is special topics.
