Dapu of the Guqin art is not only a research job aiming to recover the ancient pieces, but also a restrained art creation activity. The Dapu artist accords with the ancient originals, and depends on his playing experience and art understandings to restore, reproduce and give new life to the ancient pieces. This process involves the fields of music historiography, edition, literature, tone-system, historiography, fingering translation and textual research. Since the 50s of the twentieth century, the artists of Guam Pinghu, Wu Jinglue, Yao Bingyan have done a lot in this field and have gained a lot of experience. This article will do some exploration and research in four parts, that is, the carding of the theory, the exploration of the playing methods, the example of old artists' experience and the demonstration analysis.The first part is about the carding of the theory. The author explores the relevant Dapu theory according to the original concept, the historical variance, the scientific meaning, the recent practice and evolution. The second part is about Dapu methods. It has seven sub-parts, that is, the choice and research of the chart, the analysis of the content and background, the emendation of the chart, the explanation of the fingering, the management of the rhythm, the analysis of structure and evolution and the playing skills. The aim of this part is to analyze, explore and summarize the Dapu methods. This part involves the studies of edition, literature, ancient pieces, the classification and evolution of fingering in the Dynasties of Tang, Song, Yuan and Ming, the structure model and creation rule.The third part is about the research of the example from old artists' experience. The artists are Mr.Guan Pinghu and Mr.Yao Bingyan. The examples are Guangling Verse(Guangling San)and The Drunkard (Jiukuang). Using these examples, the author wants to study the methods and characteristics and summarize their experience and significance. The fourth part is about the demonstration analysis. In this part, the authorchooses the pieces, Orghid in seclusion in Jie Shi DiaoQie Shi Diao You Lan)to do some exploration in edition, content, the fingering, the management of rhythm. What's more, the author does some comparison of the different methods to play the same pieces in order to show the different characters of the artists.In the last, the author brings forward some thinkings about setting up the rule and the nature of Dapu.The art of Guqin is one of the great examples which has achieves very high level of human musical civilization in rhythm, pieces, skills, music idea. Dapu will show us the rich and colorful pieces of Guqin, and supplies us vivid examples to heritage and develop the art of Guqin. This article studies the concept, meaning, history and method of Dapu, analyzes the example and demonstration of Dapu, summarizes the experiences the old artists, and sets up the rule and style of Dapu in order to deepen the practice of Dapu in the future. The ideas in this article also have an important and practical meaning to the save and protection of the art of Guqin heritage.
