This dissertation is divided into three major parts. These are (1) introduction, (2) text, and (3) conclusion.IntroductionIntroduction centres on questions relating to the implication of the subject, the purposes, perspectives, methods and system of study, materials used in this paper, and the recent research developments at home and abroad.The purposes of study include roughtly the following: Firs-t,to make clear of the historical fact and the nature of the matters during this period. Second, to clarify some ambiguous concepts and wrong understandings in the academic circle in order to not only learn the past correctly, but also treat the present correctly, and thereby to improve the healthy development of the relations between China and related countries. Third, to clarify related theoretical problems. That is, whether it is important for administration to define the scope of boundary historically or not; How to measure the effectiveness or not of the Jiandao Agreement by the international law; What is the internal nature of the "Jiandao issue" (i. e. national sovereinty).This study will mainly begin with the analysis of the policies on the "Jiandao Korean" followed by China, Korea and Japan in the modern time in an attempt to reveal the Japaneseambition for seizing the Yanbian area. This paper covers from the beginning of the Qing Dynasty to the mid — 1920s.TextThis text is made up of six chapters.Chapter 1 tells the historical evolution of the Sino—Korean borderline and the frontier policies followed by the two countries in the Qing Dynasty. The former emphasizes the Chinese government's administration over the "Jiandao" area in the Ming and Qing Dynasty, by which this writer would like to prove such a historical fact that the Jiandao area is the Chinese territory from the ancient time. That is the important prerequisite to judge the right and wrong of the "Jiandao issue".Chapter 2 recounts the negotiations between China and Korea in the Qing Dynasty on the frontier affairs and the policies on the Korean immigrants pursued by the two countries; reveals the intentions of the Korean frontier officers to occupy the Jiandao area and the efforts of the Chinese . to defend the territorial sovereinty.Chapter 3 discusses the Japanese intervenence in the affairs of the "Jiandao issue" and the negotiations between China and Japan on the " Jiandao case", disclosing the criminal act of Japanese imperialism and displaying the just stuggles of the Chinese government and the frontier people for the national sovereinty.Chapter 4 explains the policy disputes between China and Japan over the nationality of the " Jiandao Korean", especially looking into the policy on naturalization followed by the Chinese government to defend territorial sovereinty and the naturalizationmovement launched by the "Jiandao Korean" for freeing from the rule of Japan, and thereby explaining the respective natures of the policies on the naturalization of the * Jiandao Korean" pursued by China and Japan, revealing again the aggressive nature of the Japanese imperialism.Chapter 5 depicts the establishment of the early social organizations of "Jiandao Korean" and the cultural confrontation between the new and the old, attaching more importance to the attitudes of the two influential social organizations—the "kenmin society" and the "Nongwuqi" to the Korean naturalization and the cultural confrontation between the new and the old, and the attitudes of the Chinese local authorities to the two groups, thereby illustrating the potential background and the social reasons that this two different groups were outlawed at the same time by the government.Chapter 6 reviews the relations between the NanmanDong-meng Treaty and the Jiandao Agreement, emphatically probing into the arguments between China and Japan regarding the scope of application of the " New" treaty, the reservation and abolition of the "Old" treaty, and the Korean jurisdiction, thus disclosing further the evil intention of the Japanese imperialism.ConclusionOn the basis of the above — mentioned problems, related matters are summarized and emphasized as follows:1. highlights the conflict and the struggle between China and Korea regarding the "Jiandao Korean"; explains the affects resulted from the "Jiandao issue" on the later Sino—Japanese relations.2. In the course of recounting the territorial disputes between China and Korea, realizes strongly that this study has expanded to the field of the modern history of the international relations due to the Russian intervenence in the disputes, which stresses the Character of anti — imperialism of the fighting and proves that the later struggle between China and Japan for related matters is just the continunce of the above one.3. Points out decisively the unequality of the Jiandao A-greement, refutes the distorted views and evil intentions held by some foreign scholars on this agreement.4. Stresses the hard journey China Korean minority had experienced in the disputes over the "Jiandao issue" , reveals the double —oppressions they had suffered from the imperialism and the feudal warlords.5. Criticizes and corrects relevant wrong opinions of the a-cademic circle through the detailed data held uniquely by this writer.6. Illustrates the momentous importance of the Jiandao A-greement and the NanmanDongmeng Treaty on the legal status of the "Jiandao Korean" , shows the fighting conditions of China Korean minority for their survival and the justice under the complicated political circumstances.7. Explains positive attitudes and useful methods adopted by this writer during the course of the study.8. Emphasizes the historical lessons which should be drawed and the matters which should be considered — i. e. , National territorial soverinty is sacred and involable; Excellent situation of stability and unity in the frontier region should be treasured; Patriotism must be enhanced in our minds; Respecthistory and look reality in the face so as to facilitate the healthy development of the relations between China and Japan.
