With the imitated works as the research object, this thesis discussed its concept, the course of take place, type, function, nature and the influence on literature theory in the middle ancient times, in order to make a plausible and convincible explanation of its position. in history.The thesis contains three parts: introduction, main text and conclusion. The introduction gives a brief review of research history, the current state, the methods and the significance of the research. The main text consists of six chapters. In the first chapter , the author defined imitation as a procession of one take others' works as the example, compared with several confused concepts.In the second chapter, the process of imitation was defined as the lyrical course and the aesthetic activity. Meanwhile, the orientation and attitude of imitation was discussed.In the third chapter, the type of imitation works was fell into four kinds: Words and expressions simulation, Simulation of meaning, Simulation of the style, General simulation. Development of the type was also discussed.In the fourth chapter, the imitation works' function was discussed in the style formation, writers' personal growth and writing style changing.In the fifth chapter, the nature of criticism and spread of imitation was discussed in order to analyze the relation between writers and the literature history.In the sixth chapter, the author studied imitation works' influence on the literature theory including style, creation and writers' taste. In the conclusion part, the author summed up the main idea and pointed out the problems should be further studied.This thesis follows two important principles proposed by Prof. Wang Zhong-ling that "research on literature history means the creation of theory" and principle of unity.
