National Calamity And The Circle Of Thought

This dissertation discusses under the background of " national calamity ", the controversy about China's political outlet among the " thought circle " in 1930s. The main body of the " thought circle " is the intellectuals, who relied on such media as the newspaper , publication ,etc. to issue their views on the political issues. Selected works in this research are " Independent Comment " , " National renaissence"," Public Opinion of The Time"," Ta Kung Pao " and " Weekly National News". Since the 1920s, the " thought circle " had concerned and studied the China's social problems, which established their foundations for the systematic discuss in the 1930s. These extensive discussions nearly covered all respects of the national political life: Under the background of " national calamity ", intellectuals generally demanded to heighten the country's awareness, which is a national question;" the party rule" of the Kuomintang were being challenged more and more, the " thought circle " demanding to finish " the party management ", implementing " the constitutional government", which is an issue of political party; the " thought circle "also launched a fierce dispute on democracy and dictatorship, which is a question of the government's mode; finally, the thought circle cared very much about the society transform problems. The above forms the theme of the thought circle in the 1930s.In the issues of nation, the majority of the intellectuals' national consciousness was strengthened. They were mostly devoted to setting up the foundation of a modern country. The " Independenc Comment" colony headed by Hu Shi, required that the country be set up on the foundation of such rational systems as modernization , technocracy , constitutional government ,etc. While " National renaissence " headed by Zhang Junmai, paid attention more attention to how to set up the ethical basis of the modern country.. Zhong foquan attempted to make China a community of politics.
