In modem China, with the invasion of western countries, the Chinese nation were faced with serious crisis. In order to strive for national independence and social progress, the advanced Chinese had been unceasingly seeking the truth from the western countries. Chen chi was one of them. It will be discussed in four aspects. First, he inherited the active factors of traditional thoughts, mainly the thought of regarding the people as the foundation and the thinking of changing . Second, with the stimulation of objective circumstance, he formed the thinking of changing, which provided the outside condition for the forming of his reforming thought. Third, his reforming thought was the result of his own efforts. when he was young, he had traveled in the places along the sea, studied the western culture, and made friends with the reforming figures, and bought and read the books about the West, which accelerated the forming of his reforming thought. Many views in his economic thought are still of value to today抯 socialist market economy. ??- The third part is about his political thought, in which mainly is his plan to make a constitutional monarchy nation and congress politics.
