Northern Wei Administrative Geography

The administrative divisions of the North Wei Period (北魏)had certain influences on that of the later-on dynasties------theNorthern Dynasty (北朝), and even the Sui-Tang Period (隋唐 ) .So we should lay great importance on the research into this subject . However , the main difficulty comes that limited materials could be found concerning this subject owing to the lack and confusion of the historical documents,which was caused by the continuous wars and the nomad ethnic groups' intruding into the central areas from the north . Now , through our work ,we have for the first time made it possible to restore the changing course of the territory of the Northern , the Eastern and the Western Wei dynasties ( 北魏,东魏, 西魏) , and by that we could afford a spacial standard to employ and research the concerning historical literature Weishu Dixingzhi (《魏 书·地形志》) .
