It's the logical starting point of this paper that how Yi jing generates, evolves and changes. The paper develops its discourse analysis on Yijing researches and explanations by comparing the connections and differentiations among all kinds of explanations so as to approach the multivariate connotations and aesthetic features.The first part aims to probe the developmental history of Yijing' s conception, which includes three clues about how Yijing was born, catalyzed and denominated. The ambiguous representations and diversity of Yijing offer later interpreters multi-dimensionality and possibility of explanations.The following two parts are the key of the paper. The second part researches the development of Yijing category by means of communication, science of art, psychology and semeiology. The first section of this part analyzes the different communication effects of different time and the importance of opinion leaders such as Wang Guowei, Li Zhehou, Zong Baihua etc.The third part mainly discusses many kinds of explanations from present interpreters by means of series study from views of life philosophy, aesthetics of reception, phenomenology, culturology.The forth part focuses discussion on various disagreements between different academic standpoints such as classical or modern, buddhology or poetics, national or universal.The summa on unfinished Yijing involves my abstract views and my plainspoken perspective namely there is no way to delimitate Yijing. In other words, Yijing is indefinable.
