German expressionism springing up at the beginning of the 20th century. Compared with other western modernism, expressionism, it's style, spirit, are unique. Due to German art tradition, society situation and influence of foreign culture, expressionism emerged and flourished. Expressionism reflected European social awareness indirectly. Expressionism was introduced to China in 1920s, for spiritual factors of expressionism fit mentality of social change. As a result, Chinese artists began their expressionism painting creation. After 1980s, expressionism influenced China once more, and Chinese artists absorbed expressionism selectively according to their own demand, and transformed expressionism, which improved diverseness of painting of China.
