In the 1970 s,New York became the world center of contemporary art.American modern art has taken the world by storm and is highly sought after by artists from around the world. The traditional way of painting gradually fell into the dust of history. With the hollowing out and shallowness of ideas and behaviors, the emergence of new expressionism pushed easel painting back to the stage of history, which marked the return of traditional painting, found a new direction for the development of art,and won the immortal status and voice for German painting on the world art stage. This paper first expounds the historical background of the birth of German neo-expressionism,then analyzes several representative painters of neo-expressionism,and then discusses the influence of neo-expressionism on Chinese contemporary oil painting. On the one hand,Chinese contemporary art in the 20 th century is eager to find a breakthrough in the ideological emancipation of the cultural and art circles;on the other hand,it faces the impact of western culture, art and values. At this time, the emergence of German neo-expressionism opened a door, and Chinese artists were inspired while they understood neo-expressionism.Some painters continue to insist on easel painting as a way to reflect social problems.Germany is a real cultural power, and its philosophy, art and music are of great importance in the world.German neo-expressionism should be regarded as an artistic trend of thought.Representative painters, composed of lupertz, kiefer, imendorf, saibitz and basselitz, entered the world art stage in the early 1980 s,and made their artistic creations with exaggerated styles, altered images and introspective spirit, attracting worldwide attention. This style and spirit have also had a profound influence on many of China’s new generation of painters. After experiencing the baptism of German neo-expressionism,some Chinese artists broke through their own confinement and opened a new world for Chinese oil painting.
