"The study of the literature of the Silk Road'' is a new proposition of my tutor Wang zhongling. It is a international task which is beyond national boundaries, covers many nationalities and religions. This task has some potential connotation and attracts many people. Under the guide of the whole proposition, it is the first time for the author to make attempts to expound the great value of tnis work to the study of the Yuan dynasty and even the whole ancient literature of the Silk Road.The article includes three parts: introduction, text and concluding remarks. The introduction gives a brief about the Silk Road in Yuan dynasty and the present situation of the study of Silk Road literature. The text is divided into two pieces: the former contains introduction and three chapters of the text. The introduction summarizes the historical background and some features of Chinese literature of the Silk Road in the early period of Yuan dynasty, which is named "wc-stern advance" or "western going" briefly. In the introduction, the author also points cut that the literature works in Yuan dynasty describes many different cultures of different regions. These works have some good characters such as pursuing truth, facing the life directly and the language' style is simple, clear and coherent.The first chapter of the first piece is mainly about the themes and contents of the works of Yelvchucai, which is an important writer of the Chinese literature of the Silk Road in Yuan dynasty. The author also analyzes the style, features of Yelvchucai's and gives some reasons for them. The author thinks that the writing of Silk Road literature of Yelvchcai has a character of "from elegance to common and even vulgarity". The artistic style of his works is sweet and agreeable. The second chapter introduces Qiuchuji (a poem of Daoism). The Silk Road works of his goes out of the narrow pattern of his early writing and presents a wide consciousness of place and time. His works has a graceful character and it becomes very apparent. He not only puts the shadow of a daoist in central China on the remote land of mid-Asia, but also puts his poems into the archives of Chinese literature of the Silk Road in Yuan dynasty and guides many daoists to take part in the writing of the Silk Road literature. The third chapter analyzes Changchunzhenren's Traveltc the West edited by Lizhichang. When dealing with the experience of spreading Eaoism of Qiuchuji in the west this book describes all aspects of life along the Silk Road magnificently and attaches mostimportance to create image of Qiuchuji. The language of this book is very brief and the feelings in the book have been controlled regularly. On the whole, the book has a tendency to urbanity.The latter piece discusses the writing of some important writers in late period of Yuan dynasty. The introduction of the latter piece summarizes the main character of Silk Road literature in late period of Yuan dynasty. The author uses "northward" to generalize it. The introduction points out that in this stage some writers not only describe some scenes and life of Dadu and Shangdu, but also portrait the lives of some special regions along the Silk Road. Meanwhile, a lot of ethnic poets take part in the writing of Chinese literature of the Silk Road so thit the writer group comprises many different ethnic poets from different regions. In addi:ion, some writers make good use of "palace lyrics" (traditional writing style) to reflect the conflicts in palace of Yuan dynasty and enlarge the content of the traditional literature pattern. The language of these works in this period is more elegant than that of early stage. The writers of this stage inherit the tradition of reflecting the real life aid pay more attention to the city life and the palace life. The first chapter of the lat:er piece analyzes some works of Mazuchang about the capital (Dadu and Shangdu) a ad western regions of the Silk Road.
