Ningbo, an important port in Zhejiang Province, originated from Dang Dynasty. It's developed gradually from a relatively backward rim-land to a city-centered sub-economic area. The focus of this paper is on the discussion about its formative process and attempt to analyze its dynamic factors in order to demonstrate the dynamic economic development and its characteristics.The paper mainly analyze the dynamic factors of formation of the economic area in the five aspects of the change of population, transportation, water construction, technology and system. In the traditional society, population is the symbol of regional economic growth. During Dang and Song Dynasty, Mingzhou's population growth and the change of the distribution reflected the change of the settlement pattern. The formation of the transportation network not only strengthened the internal economic relationship, but also established the range of Ningbo geographically. The development of irrigation works expanded residents' settlement and solved food problems. Meanwhile, irrigation network formed by the use of water became the important part of regional social system. In the course of restoring water conservancy project, by means of economic power, local powers attempted to be admitted by the government and establish their own power range. As a result, the process of regional development is also the process of social integration, indicating the interactive relationship between local powers and central government. With the increase of population, irrigation works and the formation of transportation network, Mingzhou's region kept developing. The establishment of the administrative order not only affirmed this kind of economic spatial order but also helped form regional economic spatial order. When economic development reached a certain level, the industrial struvture changed, regional distribution was newly-adjusted. Commodity trade took on a new look. Mingahou-centered new sun-economic area inevitably came into being.However, economic development itself is a complicated framework. The formation of economic regions resulted from human beings' comprehensively natural utilizing, planning, distributing and protecting regional natural resources, social economic resources and natural human environment. In such a process, the dynamic factors were diversified, complicated and changing. The purpose of this paper is to indicate the dynamic economic growth rather than a simple description. Therefore, the aim will be achieved if main factors are described.
